Addiction and Alcoholism in Nevada: Where to Get Treatment

The state of Nevada has gained quite a reputation for its vices and excesses. Nevada offers people from all walks of life an opportunity to throw their inhibitions out of the window and indulge in a culture of entertainment and gambling. Unfortunately, this has led to the growth of an illegal drugs market that is being exploited by drug trafficking organizations from all corners of the world.

The state boasts of a comprehensive inventory of nearly every illegal substance. Nevada acts as a breeding place for substance abuse and addiction. In addition to this, it also acts as the nerve center for the distribution of methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, among other drugs. Illegal drug problems such as marijuana gardens and methamphetamine labs have sprung up in other areas of the state, including the outside of the well-known hotspots like Reno and Las Vegas. This has led to a spike in the number of addicts and active users of these illegal drugs, as well as in the number of individuals battling alcoholism.

High Alcohol Dependence Rates

Alcoholism is a serious issue in Nevada and has a variety of consequences for both the alcoholics and for the people in the state. According to statistics from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the alcohol dependence rates in Nevada throughout the years have stayed within or above the national rate. This applies for all the age groups surveyed by this study. The study also reports that the number of Nevadans who require alcohol or drug treatment do not receive it within or above the national rate.

This group of individuals who battle alcoholism but do not get help is responsible for a myriad of problems. These include rising rates of drunk driving, sexual assaults, domestic violence, among other social problems. There are also several health related costs to alcoholism in this state. This is as a result of the increasing rates of heart problems, liver disease, cancers, as well as the rising number of injuries from accidents and violence related to alcohol use.
