US Embassy Turkey issues alert re earthquake in the Turkish Southeast and Central Mediterranean regions. Urges citizens to avoid damaged areas. More via email.

The region close to the epicenter has experienced catastrophic damage. The government of Turkey has declared a state of emergency and has called for international support. The death toll has risen to more than 600 with an additional 2000+ injured.

There was an earthquake in the Turkish Southeast and Central Mediterranean regions with an epicenter in Gaziantep.


Individuals in need of immediate, emergency assistance should call Turkish authorities using the phone number 112.


We suggest all citizens avoid damaged areas and do not enter damaged buildings until Turkish authorities deem them safe.


All inquiries regarding U.S. citizens impacted by the earthquake should be directed to U.S. Embassy Ankara at Ankara-ACS@state.gov .
