SECURITY ALERT – MESSAGE TO U.S. CITIZENS IN SWEDEN

The U.S. Embassy in Sweden reminds U.S. citizens to exercise general caution when attending large events or frequenting public venues. The terrorist threat level in Sweden remains elevated since the Swedish Security Service raised the threat level from 3 to 4 [on a scale of 5] on August 21, 2023. The heightened threat environment is due in part to the series of Quran burnings in 2023 and to protests following them, and is compounded by tensions tied to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Suspicious activity should be reported to the relevant authorities.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid crowds.

  • Avoid demonstrations.

  • Keep a low profile.

  • Be aware of your surroundings.

  • Review your personal security plans.
