Supplemental Info:
On 8 June 2026, a 30-year-old Sudanese national, having entered Northern Ireland from Dublin, can be seen in video pinning a 40-year-old local man to the ground in Belfast and repeatedly stabbing his head, neck, and face in a clear attempt at decapitation. The video shows the sustained assault until local residents, one using a shovel, intervened and held the attacker for arriving PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) officers.
The suspect was arrested on scene for attempted murder and remains in custody. The victim is hospitalized with life-changing injuries but is currently stable. PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson labelled the attack as “brutal” and stated it is not being treated as terrorism-related.
