To the honorable presence of the Grand Marja (source of emulation) of the Shiites around the world, Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi,

With greetings and deep respect,

In recent days, we have witnessed the President of the United States and the leaders of the Zionist regime repeatedly threatening the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and some scholars and religious authorities with assassination.

We respectfully ask Your Eminence to declare: What is the Islamic ruling on threatening the leadership and the religious authority of the Islamic community? And if, God forbid, such an act is carried out by the U.S. government or anyone else, what is the duty of Muslims across the world?

May God protect and support all divine scholars, religious authorities, and the Supreme Leader under the special care of the Imam of the Age (may God hasten his reappearance), and may He repel and eliminate the evil of the infidels and the enemies of God’s religion.

Any individual or regime that threatens the leadership or religious authority to harm the Islamic Ummah and its sovereignty—or, God forbid, acts upon such threats—is considered as mohareb (an enemy combatant waging war against God). Any form of cooperation or support for them by Muslims or Islamic governments is forbidden (haram). It is necessary for all Muslims across the world to make these enemies regret their words and actions. And if they endure hardship or suffer losses in doing so, God willing, they shall be rewarded as warriors in the path of God (mujahid fi sabil Allah).

May God protect the Islamic community from the evil of its enemies and hasten the reappearance of the Master of the Age (Imam Mahdi).
