SMS Alert Text:

Gunfire and explosions reported at Guadalajara Int'l Airport. Possible retaliation for killing of cartel leader. All flights grounded. AlertsUSA monitoring.

Supplemental Info:

Earlier today, the Mexican army killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” during a security operation in the western state of Jalisco. This was followed by several hours of roadblocks with burning vehicles in Jalisco and other states.

It is believed the attack on government troops at the airport may be part of the cartel's retaliation for the killing.
