Subject: when productivity becomes the enemy of connection

I caught myself in a pattern today that I didn't like.

Working nonstop instead of finding ways to connect more deeply with my wife.

Here's what happens:

I get bored or restless, and instead of finding ways to connect with her, I go back to work.

I have this belief that "just sitting around isn't accomplishing anything."

So I open my computer. Check on projects. Start building something new.

Since I work from home, it's always right there.

Always tempting me to be "productive."

But today I realized something:

I'm choosing productivity over presence.

I'm choosing tasks over the most important person in my life.

I'm stuck in a routine where work feels more comfortable than just being with her.

Now that I'm saying it out loud, it sounds really messed up.

So I asked AI to give me ideas for how to connect more deeply with my wife (I know, I know, it sounds ridiculous).

Not work ideas. Not productivity hacks. Not business strategies.

Ideas for connection.

And you know what? It gave me some really good suggestions.

Simple things like:

  • Ask her about her dreams, not just her day

  • Create tech-free zones in our house

  • Plan surprise experiences together

  • Share what I'm grateful for about her

Basic human connection stuff that I'd been too "busy" to think about.

It's important to take time to focus on what matters most.

Life. The people in our life. Enjoying life while learning life lessons.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop being productive.

Sometimes the most important work is the work of being present.

If you're in a relationship, when's the last time you asked your partner about their dreams?

If you have close friends, when's the last time you had a real conversation that wasn't about work, family or the weather?

I'm still figuring this out, but I know one thing:

All the apps I build, all the projects I create, all the "success" I achieve means nothing if I'm not present for the people who matter most.

The work will always be there.

The moments with the people you love? Those are finite.

P.S. I'm curious - do you struggle with this balance too? Between being productive and being present? Hit reply and let me know. Sometimes it helps to know we're not alone in these challenges.
