Visualize before you play that first note, visualize before you rock the stage, visualize the can, before you destroy those massive chili cheese fries. =)
This also works for sight reading, studies show that 5 minutes of visualization is equivalent to 1 hour of practice. I've tried it, I've taught it and it works. Public schools should, but do not teach this simple yet effective method for studying.
