Your Latest Update
Hi again!

Hasn’t this year flown by? Here we are in April and the second gig guide of the year is here and the line-up of acts over the next four months reads as a who’s who of popular acts to appear on Sundays at the D&P and some great newcomers to boot!!!

Read on…………….

MARCHINGTON MUSIC CLUB
(SUNDAYS FROM 5.30PM)
This week we are joined by Nottingham based MANOS PUETAS TRIO, and as the name might suggest expect some fiery Flamenco influenced Guitar work with a helping of Jazz thrown into the mix!

"Lewis and Sullivan play with fire!" Metro

Manos Puestas Trio are a UK based group playing Gypsy Jazz, Be-bop, Latin and Rumba

Comprising 2 guitars and double bass, the Trio has many years experience between them, and all members have played throughout Europe, including appearances at Montreux Jazz, WOMAD, Sidmouth and Glastonbury Festivals

Re-interpreting jazz standards in a different style, Jon Lewis and Matt Sullivan play guitar with a Flamenco technique – that’s right, not a plectrum to be seen! This brings a unique feel to the tunes, particularly those of Django Reinhardt, Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk.

In 2014, Matt Watson of Oxford based Cuban big-band Ran Kan Kan joined them on double bass, enhancing the Latin feel and leaving lots of room for improvisation and up-beat danceable rhythms.

RODNEY BRANIGAN
(Sunday 15th April 5.30pm)

Appearing at the Music club a week Sunday, full details about this gent next week but for now visit him on youtube and be blown away!! Two guitars played at the same time!!!!!!! (After seeing this you may want to arrive early for a great seat!)

RODNEY BRANIGAN - 'A FIRST CLASS US IMPORT'
Texas-raised Londoner who learned to play in Austin, perform in Los Angeles, craft songs in Nashville, and put it all together in London.

A multi-instrumentalist with a rich and soulful voice often compared to Jeff Buckley. Described by France's Crossroads magazine as "the revelation of the year or even the decade".

Original blend of progressive folk, rock, flamenco, classic, bluegrass and jazz sensibilities have seen Rodney tour the US from coast to coast and travel across India, Africa and Europe, where his reputation as an outstanding live performer has led to turns supporting the likes of Jack Johnson, Billy Sheehan, Frances Cabrel, Alabama 3, Angelique Kidja, Talvin Singh, Billy Bragg, Bad Finger, Slim Jim Phantom, Bo Didley, Pentagram (India) Shair'n'Func and Show of Hands.

“Leave to cross France from end to end, because this is what we call a real discovery. A contemporary musician as innovative as the Boulez was in his time” (Paris Moves)

“Rodney Branigan is one of the most amazing artists you will ever see. Not simply because he is unique, but rather because he is impossibly talented” (Music Connection Magazine)

Americana music with virtuoso presentation, with a touch of clean comedy thrown in for good measure. A very entertaining evening that fits the music pub as well as the fine arts theatre

STEREOSONICS

As reported last week the Stereosonics gig has been re-scheduled for Saturday November 10th following a last minute hospital appointment scheduled for around the time of the original date. Purchased tickets are valid or a refund can be obtained from point of purchase, which leads on nicely to….

THE JAM’D
(Saturday June 9th 7.30pm. Marchington Village Hall)

The last Village Hall event before the holiday season and promises to be a good one, what better than some raucous angst from one of pop’s favourite trios and a bit of solo Weller thrown into the mix for good measure!

Here’s what the papers had to say…..

Widely regarded now as the Uk’s most authentic and leading tribute to The Jam, The Jam’d are totally committed to giving an unforgettable, authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3.

As full time touring professional musicians, and massive Jam fans themselves, the band don’t “try to be” or “pretend to be” The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on all their memories, experiences and love of what was the country’s biggest band in their day.

Gigging up and down the UK at outdoor festivals, scooter rallies and some of the UK’s top tribute venues & events! The show also includes the only replica of Rick Bucklers ‘Great White’ drum kit & features their own brass section!……You won’t be disappointed!

Every effort is placed into reproducing the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, aggression, passion, and even fashion on stage, something not always prevalent in today’s world, but to The Jam’d, it is a passion, a mission, and an honour to play for fans of “the best band in the f#@*ing world!”

LOCAL BOY DONE GOOD

Home grown talent!! Richard Castle joins us on Thursday April 19th to show off his debut solo CD release!

We be playing back the album on the night and we might even get Richard to knock out a few tunes!

Richard Castle’s new solo album comes straight from the heart of a young man living bang in the middle of rural England. From tales of zany characters tearing up market towns, to battling inner demons and a healthy mistrust of the establishment, One-horse Town is a satirical but sincere journey through Castle’s over-active psyche.

It’s free admission and the fun starts around 8pm-ish!

Put it in the diary!
