MARCHINGTON MUSIC CLUB
(SUNDAYS FROM 5.30PM)
DOUBLE CROSS; 7TH OCTOBER 5.30PM

Andy:  Andy is a master of the six string thing. Well, he should be, he’s been cutting his chops since the time guitar players were gods. He is a founder member, lead guitar player and vocalist with Derbyshire electric rock outfit Crossroads, who have entertained audiences throughout the county for over ten years. He takes his pleasure in the classic Blues and rock oeuvre and you can expect to find inspiration from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clapton and Hendrix in his extensive repertoire.

Phil:  Phil ‘The Harp’ was given his first harmonica by a blind bluesman in the Netherlands at the age of ten. He grew up listening to his folks’ collection of John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry and Beatles records. When he dug that old harp out of the loft a decade later he knew what he wanted to play. After spending a few years sitting in with local artists he found himself playing regularly as one half of the Blues buskers acoustic duo.

When that ran its course Andy and Phil decided to hook up and go out as a duo doing some of their favourite tunes, so Double Cross was born. They've gigged across the Midlands, played the Acoustic Festival of Britain and Off The Tracks festivals in the last couple of years, and even supported the Pretty Things at The Flowerpot in Derby. They aim to entertain and have been given the accolade of Best Duo in the Derby Gig Guide Magazine for the last few years.

RICHARD CASTLE & DAVE BLANT; SUNDAY OCTOBER 14TH 5.45 PM
Richard Castle’s debut album puts paid to the myth there is nothing to do in sleepy rural market towns – in fact, growing up in the middle of nowhere can be a source of inspiration.

One-horse Town is a 10-track journey through the over-active psyche of a 32-year-old musician still kicking around in the town he grew up in.

Detached from the homogeneous gym-bunnies and plastic surgery-damaged masses of the big city, Castle’s view of the world is a little out of sync with what you see on TV.

And this is reflected in the sound of the record – harping back to the unashamed three-chord tricks of the songwriters of the 1960s and 70s.

The result is a record that is at once honestly introverted, scathingly satirical and tantalisingly tongue-in-cheek.

It pulls no punches when it comes to the banality of modern Britain – and internet trolling, the class system and Brexit are all in the firing line.

Castle has recently received praise in the media from former Birmingham Mail music writer John Griffin and Moorlands Radio presenter Simon Jones.

MERSEY BELLES; SUNDAY OCTOBER 21ST 5.45PM
English uke chanteuses, who channel a retro vibe in pursuit of modern-day fun.

The Mersey Belles are cousins Nancy and Pearl who take you on a trip down memory lane infusing the ukulele with fabulous renditions of all the old classics from the 20's right up to the 50's, while making songs from the 21st century sound even better than they do on the wireless radio!

ROGUE EMBERS; SUNDAY OCTOBER 28TH 5.45 PM
Back in 2014 Danny Wyer (Guitar, Banjo & Vocals) met Kate Marsden (Guitar, Ukulele & Vocals) at a local open mic night in Derbyshire. The two soon started to perform together at various venues across the Midlands, and quickly discovered that they could achieve something very special as duo. Together Danny and Kate wowed audiences with their powerful vocals and spell binding harmonies. After Danny won the singer songwriter competition at Stainsby Folk Festival in 2016, the pair decided to start a band and The Rogue Embers were born. Styling themselves as Country Folk with attitude, their foot stompin’, hand clappin’ sound has quickly established the group as a must see. The driving vocals delivered by Danny Wyer and Kate Marsden are backed by Mr Jables on Drums and Dan Robinson on Bass. Russian violinist Marina Slonova finishes the line-up with her dynamite gypsy violin.

The group boasts a diverse musical background ranging from rock, metal and punk to bluegrass, folk and country. They have drawn upon this broad spectrum of genres in creating their unique sound and original material. Influenced by artists such as Richard Thompson, The Lumineers and The Civil Wars, The Rogue Embers never fail to deliver a show stopping performance. Their passion is fuelled by their enjoyment of playing together which is infectious to all audiences from local venues to national festivals.

The Rogue Embers carefully crafted songs, fast paced rhythms and resonant harmonies belie their recent formation and have received wide acclaim from local radio and festival audiences. Their highly anticipated debut EP ‘Comin Through’ is out now to purchase and stream on Spotify and Itunes.

THE STEREOSONICS

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10TH
7.30PM ADM £10 ADV

In 1999 our group began as a covers band playing a varied repertoire of current and classic anthems. Our set included several Stereophonics tracks and it soon became apparent that Shane had the same vocal range and a similar voice to Kelly Jones. So in the summer of 2000 we decided to venture into the world of tribute bands and Stereosonics were born under the original first name of Replicaphonics!

The band mastered the large catalogue of Stereophonics songs and began to perform live on a regular basis. Even playing a fantastic gig at the Working Man's Club in Cwmaman, Wales; where the Stereophonics played their first ever live show, due to it being Kelly, Richard and Stuart's home town! the band had the great pleasure of being joined onstage by Stuart Cable Stereophonics former drummer - which is a personal highlight for all band members. Stereosonics received many compliments that evening regarding Their performance, even being told that Shane sounds like Kelly by Mrs Jones herself! (Kelly’s Mother Beryl) they continued to perform over the years and became renowned for providing great entertainment that could not be rivalled unless you had an audience with the band themselves.

Due to family commitments and a member of the group emigrating they took a year off from the performing scene, although they continued to rehearse and hone their performance as close to the originals as possible.

They were now back with a vengeance and ready to rock the tribute music scene once again.

As the band restarted with new members, it felt that a new beginning and a new name was necessary. Formally known as the Replicaphonics, the band re-emerged as the Stereosonics.

Stereosonics are proving to be more successful than ever and continue to tour the length and breadth of the UK going from strength to strength.
