Subject: Your Update from The Dog & Partridge

This Week's Update
Hi there,

Busy week ahead, more about that as the letter progresses, but as always firstly….
MARCHINGTON MUSIC CLUB (Sundays from 5.30pm)
Despite the holidays and warmer weather, attendances have been very good the past few weeks and in amongst the firm favourite bands returning, we have a crop of new ones.

This week is no exception we welcome for the first time….SWEET LIQUORICE.

Here is some info about them...

Saskia and Tony have been playing music together for about a year having met at an open mic session in Belper, where they respectively live. Saskia is 16 years of age and Tony is...older!

Saskia describes herself as alternative in her fashion and taste in music. Her favourite band is Evanescence and she currently listens to wide range of music ranging from Green Day through to Melanie Martinez and Disney!

Tony's musical background was grounded in blues and rock but he became proficient in fingerstyle guitar playing from country blues through to the British guitarists eg Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and John Martyn. He has also been influenced by the contemporary fingerstyle players eg Eric Roche, Tommy Emmanuel, Andy Mckee and John Gomm. Saskia has a trained and powerful voice which is often described as "stunning" or "...gave me goosebumps...". Tony's playing has been described - "a master class of acoustic guitar, sublime, brilliant!!"

Sweet Liquorice now combines those very different backgrounds in to what has been described as "..a unique combination...just works so well, loving this..!!".
Their repertoire includes rock ballads through pop, country and jazz.

In a full set they each supplement their joint songs with occasional solos, Saskia accompanying herself on guitar or ukelele, possibly doing one of her own songs or Tony playing an instrumental piece which can be a self composed piece or Take Five or a Beatles tune!

MARCHINGTON MELEE 10
(FRI 18-SUN 20 AUGUST)

As promised a few weekly updates on the proceedings only four weeks away!

This week we give a mention to the ever popular HERRON BROTHERS who have visited the music club on many occasions and never fail to entertain, with their plundering of the Crowded House, Simon & Garfunkel etc songbooks delivered in their own unique style.

They describe themselves as "Harmony laden cover versions of classic songs from the past 60 years!"

If you have never seen them before (where have you been???) or if you need a reminder, the boys have kindly provided this link, have a look.

Make a date!!!!
