The Inland Waterways Association and The Canal & River Trust are holding a joint workshop on Friday 15th February 2019. The aim of the day is to highlight the significant role volunteers play, attracting younger volunteers and how to implement safeguarding procedures. This workshop will give attendees the opportunity to to explore case studies, assess the need for younger volunteers and discuss their own experiences.

Overview of the day

10am: Networking, tea, coffee and biscuits

10.30am: Welcome (Neil Edwards & Sam Anderson-Brown)

10.40am: Workshop 1 (Desmond Family Canoe Trail, Canal & River Trust)
This workshop will cover why community engagement is important, young volunteers success stories & the do’s & don’ts of working with young people.

12pm: Lunch (Buffet lunch provided)

1pm: Workshop 2. Family Volunteering (Alex Melson - Volunteers Coordinator, Waterway Recovery Group). 
This workshop will look at overcoming the barriers preventing younger volunteers attendance, making family volunteering work for your restoration and designing opportunities to suit all. We will also take a deeper look into the successes, trials & tribulations of WRG's Family Canal Camps.

2.15pm: Q&A – A chance to ask our experts any questions

Availability: Please be aware that tickets are limited to a maximum of 3 per society/organisation and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrival: Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before the workshop begins. If you do arrive early Hatton Locks Cafe is just a 2 minute walk away also on Canal Lane.

Parking: There is pay & display car parking just over the bridge from our Hatton Locks offices.
