We are Pleased to Welcome Ty Chiko to Resound NW

Originally from the Islands of the Bahamas, Ty has been singing his whole life as well as playing piano, guitar, and ukulele. He holds a Masters Degree in Music Performance from the University of New Mexico and is completing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice Performance and Entrepreneurship at Arizona State University.

Ty recently played the role of Edward Cannady in the world premiere of Beatrice at the Portland Opera.

SoulSinging Classes

Registration is open!

SoulSinging is now meeting in a hybrid format which includes in person and online options.  Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to attend class in person.

What is SoulSinging?

SoulSinging is an innovative group singing journey that is equal parts choir, singing class, and supportive community. While exploring exciting and diverse musical styles, this group empowers participants to be holistic, mindful singing artists. Focusing on the skills and attention required to create dynamic ensemble performances, participants will learn the potency of singing together.

SoulSinging includes the following:
* Weekly classes with engaging group and solo singing and occasional public performances
* Diverse musical styles rich in harmony, rhythm, and inspiring lyrics, such as folk music from around the world, classical choral music, contemporary pop, musical theater, jazz, and group improvisation
* Opportunities to hone your skills both as an ensemble singer and as a solo artist
* A supportive and safe cohort of people with whom to learn and take new risks
* Extensive coaching from the Resound NW staff to work on your musical skills. The Resound NW staff has years and years of experience teaching voice and performing professionally. We have taught hundreds of people from all walks of life to sing.
* Observe the measurable progress happening with your voice and the voices of the other students in your group

Ultimately, we will learn that we are not alone. We will learn that there is endless possibility with our singing. And we will unlock the full potential to express ourselves through our voices.

We look forward to taking this journey together!

"I think SoulSinging is superb and Daniel is a complete delight as a teacher. I’m happy to report that this class was even better than I had hoped it would be. The instructor, Daniel, made me feel very welcome from the minute I walked in the door and the sense of community was very apparent as everyone seemed genuinely glad to have me there. I loved the warm up and the round of singing games that were played at the beginning of class. Everyone participated and it was a blast. Daniel has a talent for picking the correct song for your voice so you actually feel comfortable. The entire group is extra warm and supportive so that anyone will feel successful."

ABOUT THE CLASS
Breathe in. Breathe out. Bathe in the music and in the moment. This is a space to just BE. An hour of contemplation, guided meditation, and sound healing through song. This is your time to dip into your well of inner peace. Carry weekly practices and helpful tips with you into your week, or simply show up to receive and be in community.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This class is for you if you just need time and space to BE. Whether you're an experienced meditator or just dipping your toes in the water, you have a well of inner peace, and you can access it. If you’re new to meditation, have no fear, I will guide you every step of the way.

DO I HAVE TO SING?
If you’re a member of the Resound NW community, my guess is your question might be more like “Do I get to sing?” Short answer: absolutely! Do you have to sing? Not at all. You will be invited to use your voice, but it is not expected. This time is for you to use in the way that feels truest to your body and your spirit.

Longer answer: This class is for self-identified singers and non-singers alike. For those with singing training or experience, it is a chance to be in relationship with your voice in a new way outside of traditional or classical training. Emphasis is placed on the healing properties of the voice and on sensations rather than sounds. For those without singing experience or formal training, this is a chance for you to get to know your voice and grow to love your voice. You’ll explore using your voice in new ways outside of your daily norm and discover how your voice has the power to provide comfort and healing.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Hello, I’m Audrey (she/her)—mindful mama, lover of song, and holistic voice coach. I love singing, I love adventure, and I LOVE sharing music with others. My early years were spent immersed in music, theatre, and education. In more recent years I have become a devoted student of yoga, Ayurveda, mindfulness, and meditation. These practices and deep ancient wisdom inform not only my teaching and music, but the way I seek to move and be in the world. I facilitate guided meditations that interweave spoken word, centering exercises, songs, and sung meditations with moments of restful silence. My gift is my song, and I have been told that my energy and presence are “a balm for the soul.” You can learn more and connect with me via my website (audreyvoonmusic.com) or on Facebook and Instagram @audreyvoonmusic.
