2025's OUTwright Theatre Festival feature production, Assassins, is a darkly humorous musical revue in which Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and John Weidman (book) depict nine misfit men and women who set out to assassinate American Presidents. Though only some were successful, all left their mark on American history. While every nation has its assassins and would-be assassins, only in America, the authors suggest, do disturbed and disturbing individuals act not because they hope to influence national politics, but because they are wrapped up in a malignant sense of entitlement. Feeling betrayed by the failed promise of American democracy and the American Dream, they strike out at the symbol for America: the American President. Assassins spans several musical styles and many decades in a dizzying series of musical and theatrical inventions that culminate in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Music directed by Mak Kastelic.

Saturday June 28th

From Instructor Mak Kastelic:

Kiki’s Hot Juicy American Pie is a bold, joyous declaration that rewrites the script on shame, sex, and the beautiful act of being our authentic, queer selves in a world that’s uncomfortable with our truth. A cabaret styled concert where intimacy, sensuality, and the unapologetic celebration of every swerve, curve, and quirk of the human body take center stage. Saturday June 28th at 7:30p at Shaking the Tree Theatre.

Director/Lead Vocals: Kimo Camat
Music Director/Piano: Mak Kastelic

Thursday July 10th

Tuesday July 15th

From Studio Admin Caitlin Lushington:

Facilitating Empowered Spaces: A Theatre Educator & Director Workshop

Co-taught by Cambria Herrera and Caitlin Lushington

Tuesday July 15 from 6p – 9p | @ Resound NW
Investment: $60 or Pay What You Will | No one turned away for lack of funds.

As a theatre educator or director, we know you want to create an environment where artists can thrive. In this three-hour workshop we will dive into how identity, power, and casting intersect and impact the rehearsal and classroom. Through hands-on exercises and collective conversation, we will navigate the nuances of what ‘empowerment‘ looks like in these spaces, the relationship between facilitator and participant, and gather wisdom on culturally-conscious casting practices. You will walk away with exercises you can implement right away, language to facilitate these conversations with your own students and artists, and a collective of fellow teachers and directors with shared intentions.
