A Message from Daniel
A Spring Of Big Changes

Greetings Resound NW Community! I'm writing to you today to share so many important pieces of news about our music studio.

First, Merideth Kaye Clark is transitioning to a different teaching role at Resound NW. After serving as a voice and guitar teacher for over three years, Merideth will be serving as a Performance Coach on our staff, teaching workshops and special coaching sessions. Merideth will no longer be serving as a private lesson instructor. She has many exciting things on the horizon for her creative pursuits, including her work with Siren Songs and the Rosetta Project musical.

I am SO grateful for the work that Merideth has done for Resound NW, serving so many students to explore the music inside of them. We will miss her in her current private lesson role, and I look forward to following all of her creative projects. We will make sure to let you all know when Merideth is coming back for workshops and other special events.

Additionally, we are thrilled to announce major expansion of our staff at Resound NW! We have THREE (yes 3!) new teachers joining our staff this month. All 3 teachers are bringing incredible skills and talents to our musical community, including decades of performance and teaching experience.
Our new teachers are:

Emily Kinkley, Voice and Piano Teacher

Dru Rutledge, Voice Teacher

Caitlin Brooke Scott, Voice and Guitar Teacher

We look forward to sharing more about each of these extraordinary teachers in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can read more about each of them below.

Lastly, we are also welcoming a new Studio Administrator to our staff, Voni Kengla! Voni has been part of the Resound NW community for over 10 years, and we are so excited to have her on board handling the administrative details of our studio. (She is also a singer and performer in her own right!)

Happy Singing!

Daniel Buchanan
Founder, Resound NW
Caitlin Brooke Scott
Voice and Guitar Teacher

Caitlin (she/her) has worked all over the country and internationally as an actor, director, singer, musician, yogi, and instructor. She believes that the best vocal sound comes from an acting-first focus, and that an integrated, full-body approach to technique yields the most growth and builds the most dependable vocal instrument. Above all else: EVERYONE CAN SING. Singing is simply storytelling on pitch. Too many adults carry traumatic experiences from their youth, when trusted elders told them not to sing, or that their voice was "bad." They were wrong. YOU CAN SING, today, exactly as you are.

Emily Kinkley
Voice and Piano Teacher

Emily (she/her) grew up in a musical family, and has a deep calling to music as a teacher and performer. s a private teacher, Emily places deep value on instilling an appreciation of music for EVERYONE. With the priorities of health and musicianship, her students are able to use the powerful tools of music theory, diverse styles of music, healthy technique, and performance as a learned skill to express themselves. Emily has performed with many different choirs and ensembles including Resonance Ensemble, Cappella Romana, Oregon Catholic Press, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Opera Theater Oregon, Tilikum Community Choir, Portland’s Roxy Consort and she is a current member of the chamber singers at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Dru Rutledge

Voice Teacher

Dru (she/her, they/them) strongly believes that each individual is the expert in their own instrument and that everyone can sing. In helping bring out this self awareness, Dru's students are able to cultivate healthy life-long habits that encourage confidence and the constant pursuit of centering creativity and curiosity. Equally at home on the stage for opera, music theatre, and cabarets, Dru has had the pleasure of portraying many of the most beloved women in the golden age of musicals and beyond. In addition to her many stage performances, Dru is a sought-after soloist who has performed many times with the New World Symphony in Miami, the Portland Gay Men's Chorus, the Rose City Gay Band, and the Oregon Symphony (on the Distant Worlds" Tour).

Voni Kengla
Studio Administrator

Voni (she/her) is teaching artist, actor, singer and creator born and raised in Portland. After being a music student at Resound NW for many years, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from The Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduation, she moved back home to Portland and was selected to join the Portland Playhouse Apprentice Company as an Acting Apprentice where she continued her artistic training.

SoulSinging is now meeting in a hybrid format which includes in person and online options.  Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to attend class in person.

SoulSinging
Experience the power of singing together!

What is SoulSinging?

SoulSinging is an innovative group singing journey that is equal parts choir, singing class, and supportive community. While exploring exciting and diverse musical styles, this group empowers participants to be holistic, mindful singing artists. Focusing on the skills and attention required to create dynamic ensemble performances, participants will learn the potency of singing together.

SoulSinging includes the following:
* Weekly classes with engaging group and solo singing and occasional public performances
* Diverse musical styles rich in harmony, rhythm, and inspiring lyrics, such as folk music from around the world, classical choral music, contemporary pop, musical theater, jazz, and group improvisation
* Opportunities to hone your skills both as an ensemble singer and as a solo artist
* A supportive and safe cohort of people with whom to learn and take new risks
* Extensive coaching from the Resound NW staff to work on your musical skills. The Resound NW staff has years and years of experience teaching voice and performing professionally. We have taught hundreds of people from all walks of life to sing.
* Observe the measurable progress happening with your voice and the voices of the other students in your group

Ultimately, we will learn that we are not alone. We will learn that there is endless possibility with our singing. And we will unlock the full potential to express ourselves through our voices.

We look forward to taking this journey together!

"I think SoulSinging is superb and Daniel is a complete delight as a teacher. I’m happy to report that this class was even better than I had hoped it would be. The instructor, Daniel, made me feel very welcome from the minute I walked in the door and the sense of community was very apparent as everyone seemed genuinely glad to have me there. I loved the warm up and the round of singing games that were played at the beginning of class. Everyone participated and it was a blast. Daniel has a talent for picking the correct song for your voice so you actually feel comfortable. The entire group is extra warm and supportive so that anyone will feel successful."
