We are excited to announce the newest member of the Resound NW teaching staff, Jennifer Davies! 

Jennifer comes to Resound NW with many years of experience performing and teaching, particularly in musical theater and opera.  She has taught several special classes at Resound NW this year, including the High School Summer Camp last month. Jennifer brings a wealth of knowledge to her teaching, especially in the area of musical theater and pop "belting" as well as traditional classical vocal technique.  She demonstrates her skills both as a compassionate teacher and as an inspiring performer

Jennifer Davies will offer private voice lessons beginning August 27.

About Jennifer Davies:
Jennifer Davies, soprano, is currently an active teacher and performer throughout the Portland area.

Comfortable in both musical theater and operatic/classical repertoire, Jennifer has performed with companies such as Portland Opera (Carmina Burana), Opera Theater Oregon (Sophie in Werther/Out of Eden), Broadway Rose Theater (Evita, world premier and recording of Ripper, and Pinocchio), and was most recently seen in Pixie Dust Productions' Legally Bonde- The Musical. Other recent performances include Ensemble/Munchkin/Tree in Wizard of Oz, Rosa Budd in The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Lakewood Theater), Valencienne in The Merry Widow  (Portland State Opera) and Nannetta in Falstaff (Portland State Opera).

She has also had experience as a concert soloist, performing as the soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah with Anna's Bay Center for Music (Union, WA) and Village Baptist Church (Beaverton, OR), in Faure's Requiem with Lake Oswego High School, and in del Tredici's Dracula with Portland State University's New Music Ensemble.

Regular Schedule, beginning September 1, 2013:

Lori Lewis: Sundays and Mondays
Jennifer Davies: Tuesdays
Daniel Buchanan: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays

Voice students are encouraged to schedule lessons with more than one teacher!  Each teacher brings different strengths and ideas to the study of voice.  Also, private lesson packages apply to ANY teacher at Resound NW (packages of 6 or 12).  Feel free to "mix and match."

SoulSinging
Experience the power of singing together!

SoulSinging is an innovative group singing journey that is equal parts choir, singing class, and supportive community. While exploring exciting and diverse musical styles, this group empowers participants to be holistic, mindful singing artists.  Focusing on the skills and attention required to create dynamic ensemble performances, participants will learn the potency of singing together.  

SoulSinging includes the following:  

  • 11 weeks of engaging group and solo singing, culminating in a public performance at the end of the semester

  • Diverse musical styles rich in harmony, rhythm, and inspiring lyrics, such as folk music from around the world, classical choral music, contemporary pop, musical theater, jazz, and group improvisation

I am currently working on four projects. The first is the moss project where my goal is to grow moss on pieces of wood, resin over it, and do simple acrylic paintings on top of the resin. I have documented the beginning stages of the moss project on my blog mossartexperiment.blogspot.com. My hope is that by this summer I will have sufficient moss growth so I can begin painting.

Next is my embroidery project. I like to use mixed media techniques so in the past I have incorporated embroidery into some of my paintings, but with this project I am using it as the main medium. I started by taking several long and thin pieces of scrap fabric and hung them up around [read more]
