Subject: Ease Survey Update #1

Kia ora Friend,

Thank you for taking part in our recent survey of people who smoke or have recently quit. This is the first of a series of updates with news about the EASE survey.

Latest survey wave successfully completed

We were delighted with the response – 1277 people participated in the Wave 3 survey between November 2020 and February 2021. EASE is an important health survey and we really appreciate your participation.

Congratulations to winners in iPad prize draw

Returning survey participants (that means people who previously participated in Wave 2 in 2019) were eligible for a prize draw – we had two Apple iPads up for grabs. The lucky winners were from Wairoa and Whangarei, and both were excited to have won and to be involved in the research.

Mini-survey coming soon

In the EASE study, we want to follow how things change for people over time. We have a mini-survey (Wave 3.5) coming soon, which will only take 10-15 minutes. As usual, everyone who takes part will receive a grocery voucher and once again there will be two chances to win an Apple iPad. Look out for your invitation to participate in June or July.

Meet the team

The EASE study is led by Professor Richard Edwards and Andrew Waa. These updates will each profile a member of the research team, starting with Andrew.

Andrew (Ngāti Hine, Ngāpuhi) is from Te Tai Tokerau but now lives in the Wellington Region where he is a proud father of two and enjoys surfing. He is one of Aotearoa’s leading Māori researchers, and is a co-director of the Aspire2025 Tobacco Control Research Centre, as well as being a Senior Lecturer in Public Health (University of Otago, Wellington).
