Spending cuts ‘will lead to loss of 1.6 million jobs’
Cuts in public spending announced in last month's Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR), and the rise in the standard rate of VAT to 20% due in January 2011, will result in the loss of almost 1.6 million jobs across the UK economy by 2015/16, with the private sector hit harder than the public sector, according to estimates from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)... Dollar falls as Fed expands quantitative easing Nat Davison, private clients FX manager at foreign currency exchange services specialist Personal FX, comments on the recent weakening of the US dollar. After the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on 2 November, the US dollar initially moved lower as the Fed expanded its quantitative easing (QE) measures by a further $600bn until next July.
