Top tips for compiling your winning Re:locate Awards submission

Entering the Re:locate Awards is very straightforward, but, to ensure you're in with the best possible chance of winning, you'll need to do more than what Re:locate Awards judge Sue Shortland described as a “cut and paste job”.

You may be thinking, “I might not win, so why should I take the time and trouble to enter? The answer, as previous entrants have found, is that the process of entering can be very beneficial – to you, your team and your organisation.

If you’re on the supplier side, considering your business objectively, asking customers what they particularly like about your company and what it offers, and refining your USP can, in themselves, bring valuable insights. If you’re in HR, you and your team can benefit from analysing what you did and how you did it, and learning lessons for the future.

If you do win, the benefits are even greater! Read comments from previous winners here.

You, too, can be a winner!

To get you on the fast track to the winner’s podium, here are some hints and tips from the judges on making your submission stand out from the crowd.

Re:locate Awards 2012/13 webinars off to a flying start

Designed to spread the word and encourage more inspirational HR teams and policies, and suppliers from new sectors, to enter relocation’s premier awards, the first Re:locate Awards 2012/13 webinar, held on Friday 30 November, was a great success.

Delegates from across the relocation spectrum tuned in to hear Fiona Murchie, Re:locate’s managing editor, and Louise Whitson, from the Re:locate team, explain the value of entering what one of this year’s awards supporters has described as “a showcase for all that is best about the relocation industry”.

This lively and informative session provided invaluable background information for compiling a winning entry, including why people should enter, what the categories are, for whom each category is suitable, and how the entry process works.

The second webinar of the series will be on Friday 14 December, from 11.00–11.30 am. You’ll hear from previous winners how their awards have benefited them and their businesses, and find out how to write a winning submission.

Green/CSR Achievement: award profile

Sponsored by Pro-Link GLOBAL

Pro-link Global This award recognises a company or organisation that has excelled in environmental initiatives and practices – perhaps by having green buildings and facilities, empowering staff to become greener, using renewable energy, reducing and/or recycling waste, or implementing green travel and transport policies.

During 2012, the UK celebrated the Queen’s 60 years of service, and organisations from across the relocation sector joined forces to support nationwide charity scheme The Jubilee Hour. Seeing what great work was being done, and wanting to give companies the chance to share their initiatives with others, we have decided to expand this category to include CSR programmes.

Says Glenn Faulk, of award sponsor Pro-Link GLOBAL, "As global-mobility programme needs continue to change, we understand the importance of building solid relationships with our global relocation partners to deliver consistent quality of service.

"PLG is an ISO-certified company that is dedicated to providing consistent high-level comprehensive immigration solutions to provide optimum support for all global mobility programmes. As a core service provider for relocation professionals, we are proud to help recognise excellence in the industry.”

Environment

You don’t have to be totally ‘green’ to enter this category! The judges want to hear about your ‘journey’. They will be seeking outstanding examples of commitment to the environment which have a real impact and may help to inspire other businesses.

Areas of achievement may include:
  • What you have done to minimise the environmental impact of your products and services
  • What you have done to make your business energy- and water-efficient
  • The environmental credentials of your raw materials and supply chain
Corporate Social Responsibility

Both suppliers and their client companies are invited to showcase their CSR programmes by entering this award.

We know there is fantastic work going on out there: please share it with others! We are giving the widest possible definition to CSR, to include:
  • General Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives, such as:
  • Health/wellness-related schemes
  • Childcare (for example, workplace nurseries/crèches) and eldercare
  • Measures to promote work-life balance
Who can enter?

Entries can be from any type of organisation involved in relocation, on the corporate or supplier side.

Technological Innovation in Relocation: award profile

Sponsored by PwC

PwC Technology plays an increasingly important part in today’s complex global business world. This award recognises the effective and innovative use of technology by a relocation organisation or HR team to bring about business and employee benefits, or the provider of an innovative product or service using technology within the relocation context.

To be eligible, the technology must be innovative and support relocation or international assignments, or make the experience better for those managing, or undergoing, a move.

Relocation management and tax-tracking software, and solutions for global-mobility training or communication or cross-cultural support, are all eligible, as are innovative recruitment and talent-management solutions.

Says Alex Rubin, of award sponsor PwC, "Sharing information in a clear, timely and secure manner is essential to deploying an international workforce. In today's demanding business environment, we are bridging these challenges through technology.

“During our 40+ years in the international assignment business, PwC has been a consistent source of innovation in the industry.”

Who can enter?

HR and suppliers, both UK and internationally based.

Rising Star in Relocation: award profile

Sponsored by SIRVA

sirvaThis award is about rewarding and encouraging future talent. It’s aimed at anyone rising to the top, whether they’re in an HR department or a supplier organisation, or an individual growing a business.

Young companies that are starting to go places, and organisations expanding into new relocation markets, are also eligible to enter.

Says Steve Marshall, of award sponsor SIRVA, “We understand the importance of recognising growing talent; it is a key factor in many of our clients’ mobility programmes and a major part of our own employee development programme.

“We are proud to be sponsoring the Rising Star in Relocation award, recognising those professionals that significantly contribute to their business today, and will continue to make a positive impact on the mobility industry in the future.”

Individuals

Rising Star in Relocation is ideal for people at an early stage of their careers, whose exceptional abilities are already apparent. However, we also welcome entries from more-experienced professionals who are taking a new direction. For example, our 2011/12 winner, Beatriz Carro de Prada, set up Barcelona-based BRS Relocation 10 years ago. She has built it up to be a preferred DSP in Spain, and is now expanding internationally, which makes her a rising star in the global sphere.

You can fill in your own entry form, or a colleague or client can do so.
Why not put forward a member of your team for this award? It's an excellent way of boosting motivation and rewarding hard work and achievement.

Companies

Whether your company is a recent start-up, is delivering an innovative new product or service for relocation, or has expanded into new markets, this award is for you.

Perhaps you’ve recently set up a tax, immigration or mobility consultancy. Tell us about it

Who can enter?

Those working in HR, and relocation suppliers, both UK and internationally based.
