Second Re:locate Awards 2011/12 webinar proves popular

Everyone at Re:locate was delighted by the enthusiastic reception given to the second of our series of awards webinars for 2011/12, which was broadcast on Friday 9 December.

Delegates from across the relocation spectrum – many of them based overseas – tuned in to hear Fiona Murchie, Re:locate’s managing editor, and Karen Collins, from the Re:locate team, who were joined by Simon Hood and George Dawes of HCR (winner, Relocation Service Provider or Team of the Year, UK, 2010/11) and Sandra Barker, of the NATS Reward and Policy Team (winner, Best Relocation Strategy/Policy, 2009/10).

The session provided invaluable background information for compiling a winning entry. Delegates learned how to create a winning submission, how winning a Re:locate award could benefit them, their teams and their businesses, and why entering these awards is such a valuable process, from both a personal and a company viewpoint.

Contributing details of what the judges are looking for was Sue Shortland, principal lecturer in international HRM at London Metropolitan University and Re:locate Awards judge.

If you missed Webinar 2, you can listen to the replay here.

CartusAward Category Profiles

Inspirational HR Team of the Year: award profile
Sponsored by Cartus

This award is for a team, of any size, that can demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in relocation, and that inspires others.

Who can enter?

This category is open to HR professionals in the private or public sector, both UK and internationally based.

You don’t need to be managing domestic or international assignments to enter. Perhaps you’re involved in talent management or resourcing, working with other internal departments (for example, tax and/or immigration) and/or external suppliers as part of a wider team managing relocations. This award is for you.

Remember, suppliers may put forward an HR team and we at Re:locate are happy to follow up with them for completion of the entry forms. Alternatively, an HR and supplier may wish to submit a joint entry. Contact Fiona for more details on 01892 891334, or email awards@relocatemagazine.com.

Why you should enter

Good practice deserves to be celebrated! Winning this award is a prestigious, high-profile way of having your contribution to the lives of employees and their families, and to your company, recognised – both outside the organisation, and, just as importantly, within it – and of motivating and engaging your team.

Entering this award shows your commitment to your organisation and provides a useful opportunity to benchmark your achievements against those of other companies.

Says Rob Abbott, of award sponsor Cartus, “Cartus is proud to be a sponsor of the 2011/12 Re:locate Awards. In selecting to sponsor the Inspirational HR Team of the Year award, we look forward to celebrating the very best HR teamwork in practice within the world of relocation.

“We expect the standard of award entries will be high and the winner to demonstrate exceptional excellence.”

How previous winners have benefited

Previous winners of this category are NATS (2007/8 and 2009/10), Ernst & Young (2008/9), and the BP/Pricoa Intercultural Team (2010/11).

Said Anita Blanchett, BP's global vendor manager for international mobility commenting on their win in the Summer 2011 issue of Re:locate, "Pricoa and BP work together well. A case in point is how Pricoa recognised a need to adapt training for global teams to cover not only the location, but also the team.

"In the last 12 months, the team has managed the movement of large numbers of staff to the Gulf of Mexico and evacuations from both Egypt and Libya, so it's a great feeling to be recognised by our peers in this way."

The judges concurred. "The team faced significant challenges and overcame them. A spirit of support and helpfulness shines through...You can always tell if a team has the right dynamics by how it copes with problems and disasters – and this partnership between the company and its suppliers provides a model of good practice."

Sandra Barker, who managed the winning NATS team said, “The pleasure derived from winning the Re:locate Awards has lasted, as the trophies are prominently displayed by HR, and we pass by each morning. To us, they are recognition of the responsiveness, innovation, care and many, many hours of hard work it takes to create an environment to encourage people to relocate willingly.

“The benefits for HR of winning are from receiving external recognition, engendering pride in ourselves, and the successful melding of the skills and expertise of the cross-functional team.”

To hear more from Sandra Barker, listen to the replay of Re:locate Awards Webinar 2.

Ernst & Young’s Jane Mabbitt found that the award helped promote the company’s Global Exchange Program and further strengthen leadership buy in, a key issue for her organisation.

Best Property Provider or Solution: award profile

This award recognises how important finding accommodation is to successful relocation.

Who can enter?

Entry is open to a wide range of companies, large or small, which provide property solutions, from DSPs to serviced accommodation providers and letting or estate agents, both UK and internationally based.

Why you should enter

Winning this award is a great way of celebrating your achievements, motivating your team, and getting recognition for a job well done. By helping to differentiate your company from your competitors, it can also be a valuable sales and PR tool.

How previous winners have benefited

Previous winners of this category are serviced apartment providers SACO (2007/8, 2008/9 and 2010/11) and The Ascott Limited (2009/10), both of which have found that the award has helped to establish their brand within the relocation sector.

SACOs Clare Ace said that the award had played an important part in differentiating the company from its competitors, and spoke of the "huge benefits and great value for the business" winning had brought. "The award has helped us to stand out in today’s ultra-competitive market. Combined with the other awards we've won, it’s enabled us to win larger clients, who otherwise might not have gone with a smaller company like ours."

As a bonus, she said, SACO has had fantastic publicity via Re:locate magazine and the website, as well as through its own press releases. The Bristol Evening Post even used one of the judges' quotes, "A small company giving a big service", as a headline when it ran the story of SACO’s win.

Clare also made the point that the entry process was useful in itself. "Considering the business objectively, asking customers what they particularly liked about us, and refining our USP gave us valuable insights.

“To be recognised by Re:locate for a third time is a real honour.”

To hear more from Clare Ace, register for Re:locate Awards Webinar 3 (Friday 13 January, 11.00–11.30).

Said Rebecca Hollants van Loocke, of Ascott, “For our global growth and high service standards to be recognised by the relocation industry is of special importance to us, as we understand the value of partnering with the relocation industry, and it is our aim for such partnerships to continue to grow.”
