Without an infra-red camera,
I'd never know these guys were at my back door.
Who's Visiting Your Back Yard?
Dear Friend,
Are you feeling cut off from the natural world?
It's too easy to think humans have "civilized" most of the planet because far too many of us have lost our connection with the natural world.
Yes, there are real dangers. We have forgotten how to live peacefully within ourselves, so how can we create peace with each other? With nature? With the planet?
It's a matter of RESPECT. It's a matter of considering that humans are not meant to dominate and destroy.
It's a matter or ending corporate control and taking back our personal power on a daily and hourly basis to make different choices.
In her book, The Tribe of Tiger, Elizabeth Marshall Thomas explains that, at least in one part of Africa, lions didn't start attacking humans until the humans began attacking the lions (p. 119). This is what she was told by the native peoples of the area.
Remember, animals are sapient (intelligent) and sentient (feeling) beings. They have their own cultures, their own ways of perceiving, their own perspectives.
How much of the "kill or be killed" philosophy have human taught the animals by our attitudes and behaviors?
So here in my back yard are wild dogs/coyotes/coy-dogs who come to hunt at night. Most nights I can hear them howling in the fields behind the small section of woods that borders my backyard, but now I can see that they visit my yard, too.
And when Melissa, my Thai Tonkinese huntress, tells me she's been delayed returning home, I have to trust that she's taking good care of herself. I know that she knows how to be safe, how to climb trees and get back down, and how to hide when necessary.
Much as I would like Melissa to appear immediately, what's most important is that she will arrive home uninjured. She has super senses: hearing, vision, and smell, and will wait and wait and wait until the other hunters have moved on.
Isn't it time to restore our harmony with Nature.
Sometimes I feel the words "civilized" and "civilization" have been misapplied when they refer to technological cultures.
Perhaps the native peoples of this planet are the most civilized cultures, and the technological societies are the least civilized. Those cultures survived by living in harmony with nature.
When you have an opportunity, start practicing your telepathic communication with some of the wild life that's living close to you. Explore their perspectives.
It may open your eyes to a new way of seeing things.
It may open your heart to a new way of living.
