Opening night – Rocks

From the director of Suffragette and Brick Lane comes a story about sisterhood, resilience and the intensity of teenage friendships.

We are thrilled to be welcoming director Sarah Gavron and writers Theresa Ikoko and Claire Wilson to the screening!
Opening night – Official Secrets

Official Secrets tells the story of Katherine Gun (Keira Knightley), who worked for GCHQ in the run up to the Iraq War. When she discovers an email that urges spying on members of the UN Security Council to force through the resolution to go to war, she feels compelled to leak it to the press.

Martin Bright, the journalist played by Matt Smith in the film, will be joining us for a Q&A after the screening!

Don't worry if you'd like to see both films – each has a screening on the second day of the festival as well!
Remember that there are no trailers at festival screenings – films will start at their advertised times.

Ara Malikian, multifaceted violinist of Lebanese origin and Armenian roots, is like no other classical violinist you have ever seen. In this compelling documentary learn about his refugee family history and his unquestionable contribution to both classical and contemporary music. With his trademark charm and multiculturalism, he commands all genres without prejudice – from Bach to Led Zeppelin.

Come to Emmanuel College at 4.00pm and get jolly with this collection of six short films! Featuring a PhD candidate, a girl refusing to do her homework, a fateful meeting in play-ground purgatory, a short romantic comedy about a young woman and her anxiety, Roundheads and Cavaliers, and cats. It's a perfect way to kick off a week of incredible variety!
