Subject: Is this normal?

Nearly 2,000 therapists shared the numbers. Here's what starting a private practice looks like.

Hi Friend,

If you're building your practice, there's a good chance you've run the math late at night: how many clients do I need to cover my bills? What do I truly keep after taxes? Is a slow first year normal? Am I behind?

The 2026 Financial State of Private Practice report is out, and the data fills in the picture. Median revenue in the first year sits around $24,000, then jumping to $71,000 after the one year mark. Nearly half of respondents said financial setup was one of the hardest parts of starting. The biggest revenue jump in the data comes between year one and year two.

The full report covers what therapists earn at every stage, what they keep after expenses and taxes, and what the most financially stable solo practitioners do differently.
