| | | Drill &Fill recovery update:
Last October we performed our third Drill & Fill procedure on our greens. This was done to remove native soil deep down in the greens soil profile which limited drainage resulting in overall poor performance. In order for this aerification process to be effective we removed as much material as possible, 12' deep with 1" diameter holes, and filled with a 20/80 sand for better drainage and soil structure. These holes are much bigger than the holes from our spring and fall aerifications and take much longer to heal. The Drill & Fill was performed towards the end of October of last season so recovery was slow because soil temperatures dropped and the turf was beginning to prepare for winter dormancy. Typically with this procedure being done late in the fall the majority of recovery is expected the next spring when soil temperatures begin to climb and soil moisture is good. March brought us very good golf weather but that also resulted a very little rain which slowed recovery a bit, however, the last two weeks have brought us regular rain events and recovery has been in high gear. I expect in a week the Drill & Fill holes will be close to full recovery except for a few around the edges of some greens. I apologize for any inconvenience but as a result we are able to provide our membership with high quality putting surfaces throughout the entire season and still sustain healthy turf.
