| | Have you played more rounds of golf this year than last? THANK YOU!!! The Pines is experiencing our busiest year to date. Weekend play, Senior Men, Wednesday evening Women’s league, Couples Golf, junior play…… What a strong turnout this year has been, and we still have 3-4 GREAT months of golf left. Did I say Thank you? THANK YOU!! My 15th year with my Pines family, and what joy to see all of our members playing golf, recruiting friends, and playing with their families. We have a lot to be proud of, and it all starts with Mike Bogroff and the men on the course. The Golf course has been good every day, great most of the time, and absolutely amazing at times. The ability and hard work it takes for our grounds crew to keep the golf course beautiful, healthy and playable takes a ton of effort. Thank you men!!

| | Please remember to make your tee times!!
You may make tee times 2 weeks in advance.

| | Perfect Alignment equals Perfect Shots:
Direction… Who cares about that, right? “You hit that ball right where you were aimed”… Those famous words that our well-meaning partner utters after we hit a ball too far left or right. Perception is our reality when it comes to what we think. If we think we are lined up straight, then we must be, right? As, Lee Corso would say “Not so fast my friend.”
Students are always asking, “How do I get my aim straight”? We need to start re-training your eyes to see what straight is. Our vision is our most powerful sense. We use sight to help us calculate distance and direction, and like every illusionist counts on, your eyes will trick your brain into thinking they are seeing something that they really aren’t seeing. ie, crooked alignment.
The next time you are on the range working on your game, you need to start to re-train your eyes to see straight. Alignment sticks are what we need to see straight. Pick your target and lay your alignment sticks on the ground. One on the outside of your ball, one on the inside, between your feet and the ball, like a set of railroad tracks on the ground. Now you have a visual in front of you that you can set your feet, hips, and shoulders parallel to, to help you start lining up at your target.
The BIGGEST key is to use the alignment sticks as aids and not become totally dependent on them to see straight. When you set up to your shot and check your alignment with the sticks on the ground, the next important step is to look back at the target and then back at your feet, as if the alignment sticks did exist. Keep training your eyes to look at the target and at your feet, target and back at your feet. After a bit of training, your eyes will adjust back to being able to see your feet as truly straight and not perceived straight. Good luck and not only hit them straight, but let’s AIM them straight too.
Best of Luck!!! Russell

| | We have over 85 juniors that have joined us this summer for our junior golf camps, and we still have 3 days left - August 5th,6th, 7th Short game challenges, full swing fun, and on-course scrambles. If you want to have fun and learn a thing or two, come join us this month!!! Having FUN is what golf is all about and by inviting a neighbor or class mate, what could be better.
Remember that we have our junior tee markers out there and there isn’t a better way to learn how to play golf than to learn how to make 4’s, 5’s, and 6’s. Playing from age appropriate tee markers and yardage is the best way to get off to the right start. Go get’em.

| | ETIQUETTE August is NO MORE SAND month Knock the sand off your shoes – After you exit the bunker from a greenside sand trap, make sure you knock off the sand from your shoes before you walk on the green. Not only does it make for ugly footprints, but it slows the pace of play, as players have to sweep the sand from their putting lines behind you. Small things, but they make a difference. Just remember 2 extra minutes a hole adds up to 36 minutes on a round of golf. Where you park the cart, playing ready golf, knocking the sand off your shoes for the people behind you…. All these things can help make everyone’s round a bit more enjoyable.

| | Our course is in the best shape ever, our membership is nearly at its max, and the Pro Shop has recorded the most seasonal rounds played in the history of the club. We’re on a roll, and to prove it the Pines has recently seen several enhancements, due to the efforts of its many members. We now have music at the pool for the enjoyment of its patrons, thanks to Jim Jackson, who donated the speakers, as well as Mike Cilella and BJ Kinsley who installed and set up the system. Meanwhile, Harrison Goff and BJ Kinsley not only contributed to, but coordinated a drive for additional donations from like-minded members to mount a new and massive TV downstairs in the members’ lounge. I think we can look forward to some sociable and lively game-watching sessions this fall! Russ Koon did a great job of gathering funds to stock the pond with rainbow trout. His efforts were successful enough to order the trout, with a scheduled delivery in September - just in time for a fishing derby. With the approval of the Board, Rich Hilleary took on a pet project of his own, which is to raise half of the funds necessary to paint the clubhouse white. Various members have expressed their support with generous donations, and Rich is close to meeting the required $3,500. He’s looking for just a few more donations to put him over the goal line. Our Membership and Marketing Chair, Dave Stone, along with his dedicated committee members, have worked tirelessly this year on the club’s membership drive. We had another new member sign last week, for a total of 398 golfing members, and 68 pool members.
Our 2019 committees have been very active in general, with many new members stepping forward to serve. This certainly includes the Tournament Committee, headed by Pat Nabors, who has done a great job scheduling tournaments. Our recent Member-Guest on 7/20 - 21 was a runaway success, with unrestrained enthusiasm running high as early as Friday night. Rick K and his band played in the parking lot last Saturday, thanks to the Social Committee, and the attendance was over 300, with people gathering at the Pines from near and far! Many thanks to the Goffs and TruLargo Construction for lending a flatbed trailer as stage, to BJ for cooking burgers and dogs, to Chris Ilardi for managing parking at the concert in June, and to all those behind the scenes who have worked so hard to make this another great happening at the Pines. All this shows that the Pines’ club spirit is alive and thriving, thanks to the people who populate it, and our heartfelt appreciation goes out, not only to all the folks mentioned here, but to every one of our members whose membership, support, and generosity make this such an excellent venue for camaraderie, relaxation, and just plain fun … not to mention Morgantown’s most remarkable golfing experience! | | | | The 2019 season is beginning to wind down, but it’s been a great one, and we’re already looking forward to 2020. Plans are in the works for scheduled adult swims, water aerobics with one of our own members, and possible group lessons for parents and children under four! Both our group lesson sessions were sellouts this year, and our guards did a super job teaching (and playing with) the children. Sadly, the guards go back to school in the middle of August, which means we’ll be forced to cut back the hours to weekends only as of August 19th. That being said, if the season has to come to an end, let’s send it out with a bang! Come dance, swim, sing, and play at our member pool party August 24th! The Pines is providing food, drinks, games, and music beginning at 7pm. And as always, on Labor Day the pool will be open 11 to 7 – the Grand Finale to this 2019 season. A big Thank-You to all our pool patrons, and hope to see you next year!
