Proper Divot Repair Tips

I've received several questions regarding what should be done, and avoided, with divot repair. Here are some of the responses I've provided.

1. Fall is right around the corner, so if your divot, whether it be from a tee or fairway, is still intact please replace it because there is a very good chance it will take root and recover. Place it back in the void and step down on it to provide soil-to-soil contact.

2. Divot sand should only be used for an irreplaceable divot. Never put down sand and a divot together.

3. If a divot is taken in the rough, replace it if possible; otherwise it should be left open. The divot mix contains bentgrass seed, and we do not want to contaminate our rough with bentgrass.

4. When needed, enough divot mix should be applied to level the void with the surrounding turf.
