Subject: Welcome Pastor Lang!

Pilgrim Announcements
August 2nd, 2015

Hello friends,

Pastor John Lang will be with us the next two Sundays - you can read more about him below.

Please join us this Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

This Sunday and next, we welcome Pastor John Lang as our guest preacher.

Pastor Lang is a 1983 graduate Wartburg Theological Seminary.  He has served parishes in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois.  Pastor Lang retired from Bethany Lutheran Church in Lemont, Illinois in 2011.  Since retiring, he has served as a supply pastor at many churches in the area and served as interim pastor at Immanuel, Evanston, for nine months in 2014-2015.  John and his wife, Nancy, live in Wilmette, where they are near their daughter and grandchildren.

John comes from a long heritage of pastors. His great-grandfather, John George Lang, became a pastor in 1883.  There are now five generations of Lang pastors in America.  They are having a reunion in Nebraska in September.

There will be no prayer time held on August 8th. Prayer time will resume at the usual time on Saturday, August 15th at the parsonage. Please join us that Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (4332 N. Winchester Ave.)

Like us on Facebook!
Hello everyone!   We are clarifying the purpose of our Facebook pages as we seek to improve our marketing and communication efforts.

“Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School”  is now our primary Facebook page for more frequent "day to day" posts about Pilgrim for active participants in the church and school.  You can also “check in” on this site and, when posting pictures online, you can post to this page.  Please make sure you like this facebook page.

The former page, “Friends of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School” has now been changed to: "Friends and Alumni of Pilgrim Lutheran School"  to help us communicate with those who are no longer directly connected to the school through a current attending student, but who want to maintain a connection to the school.  Please direct our alumni, parents of alumni, former staff and friends of the school to this page.  Thank you!

To everyone at Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School, Thank you very much for the extremely generous gift I received last Sunday. I was very touched by all the recognition I have received. Pilgrim is a wonderful place to work and I will miss it greatly. My life has been incredibly blessed through everyone here. Thank you again for all the tremendous support I have been given over the years. Love, Cheryl Saiki
Tuition Assistance Appeal
The time has come to lift up among Pilgrim families, members, friends and alumni our Tuition Assistance Campaign for the 2015-16 school-year.  In our mission to provide academic excellence with a heart, Pilgrim is blessed with many gifts from many people. Some have enough to pay tuition fully; some share gifts of service to offset part of their tuition costs. All have the desire to provide the best education possible for their children.  Please watch for a mailing to come out shortly, or, contact Principal Comella or Pastor Kristian for more information.

Hot Meals
Most of the ten teams are well-staffed, but we always need substitutes.  Contact Janet Taylor if you are interested in being a substitute or would like to help in keeping the pantry well-supplied.  Contact Janet Taylor at or (773) 777-4052
Gift Cards will be sold on Sunday after church and on Monday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. throughout the summer. Please contact Anne Barsano ( with questions.
Play Lot Construction is underway!
Construction has begun on the play lot this past week.  Plans are in progress and we will spend every dollar donated so far.  The project has also received a $6,000 grant from Pilgrim Lutheran Church's memorial fund, and we thank the families who have donated to this in memory of their loved ones.  Many future generations of Pilgrim school children and church members will benefit from this renovated space.
If you haven’t gotten a chance to contribute towards this important project, we are still welcoming donations to help cover a few remaining items for this phase 1:
playground climbing (fort or monkey bars) feature, volleyball poles, more climbing holds, arborvitaes, paints, stains, and few other native plants.  We would welcome any amount.  Please send a check to the office designated play lot renovation.

Market Day has been bought out by World's Finest Chocolate and will no longer be taking orders from us on a regular monthly basis.    During the months of July and August Pilgrim will receive 10% of any Market Day items purchased at a GFS store. Select Market Day items will be available at the stores until they run out.  Thank you to everyone who has supported Market Day since we started with them in 1989.  Please contact Anne Barsano with any questions as to store locations.
