Dear Friends,

With everything going on... inside us and around us... we need a place to find peace and receive wisdom and strength for such a time as this.

Pilgrim is such a place. 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. are the times!

It is good for our souls to hear children sing, as they will this Sunday.

It is good to receive the presence of One who rules with love, acceptance, and grace from the cross. (Luke 23)

It is good to give thanks, especially in this season, for God's generosity in our life and in our church.

It is good to "be still, and now that God is still God." (Psalm 46)

See you Sunday!

Sunday—Children Participating in Worship—It’s Christ the King Sunday and we invite all children to participate throughout the service with their families. Pilgrim children's choirs will be presenting musical offerings for this celebration of our true King, and all kids are invited to participate in a procession of light. Nursery will be available for children under 3 and Sunday School will resume on November 27.

Sunday our confirmation students and youth group are heading to our sister congregation, Trinidad Lutheran Church in Humboldt Park, to help serve a meal for the hungry and homeless. The address is 2921 W. Division, and the meal will be served from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. You are welcome to join us!

Explore the Bible—Would you like to learn more about the Bible? Discuss spirituality and faith in a non-threatening, non-judgmental context? We invite you to join us next week at 9:15 a.m. in Maring Hall as we read and discuss the Bible together… there is NO EXPERIENCE necessary. In honor of the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, we are exploring the Bible and what Martin Luther means to us and to the world today.

Prayer Time
—We will not meet the Saturday after thanksgiving, and will resume on Saturday, December 3rd.

New Member Classes
—What does ‘Lutheran’ mean? How can Pilgrim help me and my family grow in faith? What does it mean to become a member of Pilgrim? If you’re at all curious about any of these questions, please explore with us. Child care is provided throughout each class. You can attend the three classes in any order. Please RSVP to the Church Office Administrator, Renee, at

Prayer and Care Boxes—We will assemble “Prayer and Care” Baskets for our seniors and shut-ins. Last year, over 40 baskets were assembled and delivered by Pilgrim members. Pilgrim's 12th Annual Toy Drive!
On Tuesday, December 16th Miss Stone’s 1/2 grade class and the 7/8 grade elves are scheduled to hop on a bus to deliver the toys collected at this year’s Toy Drive. The planning for the afternoon is underway, the bus is reserved, the supplies have been ordered… now we need the toys! Every year for the past 11 years the Pilgrim community has helped bring Christmas joy to children at Pablo Casals Elementary School in Humboldt Park. This year we are aiming high and hope to collect enough toys for not only the 46 first graders with whom our 1st and 2nd graders will spend the afternoon but also gifts for all the Pablo Casals preschoolers, kindergartners and 2nd graders-a total of at least 185! We can reach that goal but obviously we need as much help as we can get. There are copies of the flier on the back table, or click

Help Keep a Child Warm This Winter
—Pilgrim is once again teaming up with Coat Angels to outfit Chicago kids for winter. Help us reach our goal of keeping 60 kids warm! Here is what you can do:
· Donate any amount of money towards this service project. If you donate $50, you will buy one complete set (coat, fleece, hat, and gloves) and receive a special gift tag that you can give as a gift this year to a loved one.
· Buy a new kids coat and donate it! Drop donations in the church parlor by noon on Dec. 4.
· Volunteer!
- Join us on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 1 for shopping! Let Sam or Shellie know if you are planning to attend.
- Help sort coats & prepare them for delivery in the church parlor on Sunday, Dec. 4.
- Volunteer with Coat Angels to deliver coats to schools across Chicago. Dates with a Pilgrim group are being determined for mid-December.  Donations (checks payable to Pilgrim, with Coat Angels in the memo) will be collected from Nov. 21 – Dec. 2 in the School Office and after the second service each Sunday.
Questions or to get involved, contact: Samantha Doerfler at or Shellie Riedle

Welcome to the 3 people who have joined the coffee hours teams, starting in January. We still need 2 more and will post the days needed soon. Please check with Anne Barsano or 773-472-6037 if you are interested.

The Holiday Form for Gift Cards
is on the back table and will be in your mailboxes at the back of church shortly. We order Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and cards may be picked up on Wednesday at the school office or from the Sunday Seller. Please contact Anne Barsano with questions.

OpCIP finally has a program for ordering gift cards on your phone. The free APP is "Benefit Mobile" and the link is Go to the site and select Pilgrim Lutheran to receive the profit. You have the choice of using your checking account or a credit card (% earned differs with payment method). The email shows you the cards they have- no grocery stores. You can view the program without having to sign up. We will still sell cards in the office as their profits are higher, but thought that this new program might work better for some of you. Let's see how this works! Thank you!
