Sunday School Year-End Celebration

Quilters & Crafters Workday
Join us today, May 18, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for an extended afternoon of sewing, scrap-booking or knitting (or whatever other craft you'd like to bring). Quilters, we will be finishing up any last-minute work on the Project Linus blankets, so if you have any that you took home to work on, they need to be returned to us by Sunday! Pilgrim Service Project Meeting Sunday, May 18
Are you interested in the future of service projects at Pilgrim? Please join us this Sunday, May 18th, following the late service (approximately 11:45 a.m.) in the annex next to Maring Hall. We will discuss possible service projects for the coming year as well as how to better organize service projects for our school and church youth. Please bring your ideas and your enthusiasm for how we can better serve the community and world around Pilgrim! Contact Lara Otsuka at with any questions.
Mothers of Preschoolers
Join us at MOPS on June 5th, 9:15 a.m. for a very special guest speaker, author Gillian Marchenko. She will be here to talk to our group about her book, her life raising daughters with down syndrome and competition and depression in motherhood. This is an open event that all moms are welcome to attend and copies of Gillian's new book, Sun Shine Down: A Memoir, will be available. This funny, friendly mom is a great speaker and has been recognized for her openness for the sharing of her story in magazines and conferences. RSVP to if you wish to attend. MOPS asks for a donation of $10 for anyone attending the meetings to cover expenses (this would include child care, coffee, snacks and more).
Prayer Ministry
Prayer time at the parsonage (4332 N Winchester), from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Vacation Bible School
This year’s VBS program, Gangway to Galilee, will take place the week of June 16-20, in the mornings. Kids ages 3 through 12 are eligible to participate. Over the coming weeks we will be asking for adult, teen and 7-8th grade volunteers to help with our preparations, as well as lining up people to help during VBS. Last year’s volunteers had a great time, so please consider signing up to help this year, even if you don’t have kids! Questions? Contact Chris Wallis.
Exploring the Bible Class
Please join us for "Knowing God by Name" as we study the Hebrew names for God in the Old Testament, and how they open up a new understanding of Jewish foundations of our faith and of our walk with God. 9:20 a.m. in Maring Hall.

Looking for Rides to Church
We are looking for people who would be willing and able, on occasion, to give a ride to someone who needs help getting to church for Sunday worship and home again afterwards. If you have not already done so, please let Barbara Anthony, in the church office, know if your name can be added to a list of volunteer drivers, and also let us know if your vehicle is accessible to people who may have limited mobility. Thank you in advance!

Our Prayer for Sunday
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Give us grace to love one another, to follow in the way of his commandments, and to share his risen life with all the world, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Acts 7:55–60;
Stephen was one of the seven men chosen by the apostles to serve tables so that the apostles could be free to serve the word (Acts 6:1-6). Stephen does more than distribute food, however. For his preaching of God’s word, he becomes the first martyr of the faith.

The second reading is 1 Peter 2:2–10
Christ is the cornerstone of God's saving work and the foundation of our lives. We are God's chosen, holy people who continuously celebrate and declare the mercy of God we experience through Jesus Christ.

The Gospel reading is John 14:1–14
On the night that he is to be arrested, Jesus shares final words with his disciples. As the one through whom God is known, he promises to go before them and act on their behalf.
