Dear Friends,

Join us this Sunday, August 7th, as we welcome an internationally renowned preacher and author to Pilgrim!

Dr. Peter Vethanayagamony is a wonderful communicator and serves as the Director of the D. Min. program at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. We hope to see you at 9:30 a.m.!
Today we are thrilled to Welcome—Rev. Dr. Peter Vethanayagamony [Vetha] as our guest preacher. Rev. Dr. Peter is the associate professor of modern Church History and director of the D.Min. program at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (Hyde Park). Vetha has also served over nine years as Outreach Minister and missional pastor in Chicago, besides his pastoral ministry in India. His research interest includes early Indian Lutheranism and immigrant non-western churches in the West. He is married to Serene, who teaches high school biology.  He is the co-editor of Mission
after Christendom: Emergent Themes in Contemporary Mission (Westminster John
Knox Press).
Thank You—to Anita Ilika for her beautiful piano playing this morning!
Partnership with CLEF Nets Pilgrim Security Upgrades—The Chicagoland Lutheran Education Foundation (CLEF) has announced that Pilgrim is receiving $55K of a grant from a private foundation for security upgrades in CLEF schools. Improvements for Pilgrim include four additional security cameras, new lighting in the playground areas, 12 new basement windows, a new Hot Meals exterior door and 11 new interior doors to secure the Annex and Maring Hall. Work on these projects should happen in August before the start of school and have minimal impact on Pilgrim’s daily operations. Many thanks to CLEF for continued support of the safety and well-being of our day school students!

Tending to our Souls in Emotional Times—We are in a difficult and anxious moment in our nation's history. Amidst the violence, fear, and mistrust, how do we tend to our souls? Please stay tuned for more details. Our Bishop, Rev. Elizabeth Eaton of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has issued a statement with her thoughts and some resources that can be found here:

Take Jesus with you! This summer, we invite everyone from Pilgrim to participate in a fun, faith-filled project called “Jesus with Me”! Inspired by Ms. Huelskoetter’s “Flat Kid” project.
