Subject: Peace Beyond Fear... Hope Beyond Sorrow

Dear Friends,

This Sunday, we will hear amazing texts: Lamentations 3- "the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases..."
Psalm 30-  "I cried to you, O Lord; What profit is there if I go down to the pit?"
2nd Corinthians 8- "the gift is acceptable according to what one has- not according to what one does not have."
Mark 5:  "Daughter, your faith has made you well... go in peace.  Do not fear."

We will also sing a very moving hymn for our time: "Healer of our Every Ill"

Healer of our every ill,
Light of each tomorrow,
Give us peace beyond our fear,
And hope beyond our sorrow.

We will once again experience the very moving "The Immigrant's Creed."

It's one thing to read these words on a screen, as you are right now.

It is very much another thing to experience them in community, as we embody the Living Word, the body of Christ.

And then, we will eat together at the welcome table, where the hold that any human category that has been cast upon us crumbles.  For at the table, our identity as children of God emerges in the touch of God's provision and presence.

This is a very important time to be the church,
to receive healing, to celebrate hope.

Join us this Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Why Stewardship? is a thoughtful 90 minute, interactive learning event (in person or online). We’ll begin with stewardship shaped by the “why”: God’s dream that our lives and our world would be healthy and flourish! Then the “what” and the “how.” It will be led by Steve Oelschlager on Wednesday, August 15th, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Pilgrim. He is the stewardship program coordinator for the ELCA and is energized by ideas about life, faith, religion, and money. He hopes to be a teacher and leader of life-giving change through his work. Come join us for what is sure to be an educational evening.
"Fun Summer Bible Stories" is an interactive, mini Sunday School experience for children aged 3-11 that will take place each Sunday during coffee hour after 9:30 a.m. worship during the summer. It was the confirmation students idea to do this! It especially makes sense to do this during the summer when Sunday School takes a break. To sign up to help, click here:

Take Jesus with you this summer! Color it, make it your own! 2. Take a picture with Jesus wherever you are, with whoever you’re with, doing whatever activity, trip, or service. 3. Upload them to Facebook or Twitter at #pilgrimJesus2018 or send them to: churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org4. Prizes will be given in the fall to the 10 best pictures!
