Come to El Salvador 2015
If you have ever wanted to serve God on a mission trip, now is the time! Come with us to El Salvador, Central America  this summer—July 31st- August 10th, 2015.   Come make friends at our sister school, Colegio Luterano!  We will be able to meet Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Bishop Medardo Gomez and the leaders in the Lutheran Church of El Salvador.  We will accompany the church in their work to resettle and feed refugees, help build churches, minister with the homeless, and encourage our sister churches who raise voices for human rights on a daily basis. This trip is open to all people. ALL AGES WELCOME, no Spanish knowledge required.  This will be the 16th summer that Pastors Kristian and Anna-Kari have led a mission trip to El Salvador.  For more information, please contact them at 773-990-0814 or at  or

Bible Discussion Time: Unpacking Discipleship
Join us on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. as we study “Unpacking Discipleship” together. This is a “no experience necessary” group; even if you’ve never read the Bible, you are invited to learn with us!
MOPS is a morning group for moms. Discussions and speakers focus on relevant, important, and interesting topics. MOPS usually meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 9:00– 11:15 a.m. at 4332 N. Winchester Ave. Childcare available on-site! The next meeting will be on April 2nd . Candice Wu from Centered Therapy Chicago is coming to give a workshop on: Self-Love and Mindfulness for Mothers
From Candace:
“One of the most empowering way for mothers to teach their young ones and create peaceful homes is to nourish themselves! Raising children can often take a toll on our bodies, hearts, and minds. Self-love not only makes space in our hearts for the joy of bonding with loved ones, but models to our children that everyone is worthy of care. This experiential workshop with Candice Wu, Holistic Psychotherapist and Yoga Teacher, will provide mindfulness, introspection, breathing, and Ayurvedic techniques to restore, heal, and cultivate love. In addition, Candice will lead somatic (in-body) activities to build awareness, empathy, and positive solutions in difficult parenting situations and to strengthen family bonds.”

Vacation Bible School is coming!
Planning and volunteer recruitment are underway for our third VBS adventure, which is scheduled for the week of June 22nd.  Vacation Bible School is for kids ages 3 through Grade 5.  We'll be meeting in the mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.  Older kids and adults are encouraged to volunteer to help make this a great experience (and have a little fun yourselves!).  Even if you aren't available that week, you can help with set design and building and other preparations.
Online registration system will begin in April.

Sharing Crosses with the Community
Most of what happened in the life of Jesus during Holy Week was public... in the courts... in an outdoor "Mount of Olives" setting, and in the streets as He walked to the cross...  Join Pastor Kristian in offering prayer and giving out Palm Crosses at Broadway and Wilson on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd  from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and on Good Friday, April 3rd from 11 a.m. to 1 pm.  Thank you!
Hot Meals PLUS is still in need of drivers to deliver hot meals to shut-ins on Saturdays.  E-mail Janet Taylor at or call at 773-777-4052 for more information.  Thank you.
Thrivent Blanket Day for Project Linus

The Chapter will also provide lunch.  No sewing skills are required. If you can tie a knot, you can help out!  If you are a quilter, please bring your own machine and basic supplies – we’ll have flannel available to sew the colored squares into quilts.  In addition, we will supply yarn, fleece and instruction for crochet-edge fleece blankets. Everyone is welcome - school-aged children through adults.
