Joyous Easter to Everyone! We praise God and we thank all of you for an amazing couple of weeks: a successful "Score Big" fundraiser, meaningful and well attended Holy Week services, and an amazing Easter experience!

And guess what? Easter is not just one day... it is a season! For 50 days, we will be letting the power of resurrection break us open to a deep and meaningful life. We're so thankful to be sharing this season with you. See you soon!

Chili Cook-Off to Benefit Refugee Family! Come one, come all to the Chili Cook-Off and Dessert Bake-Off to benefit the Bethany Pilgrim Refugee Project on Sunday, April 30th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Maring Hall. There is no admission fee, but we ask people to bring cash bills to place in front of the best pot of chili and the best dessert. Your monetary donations will determine the Chili and Dessert King or Queen of Chicago's North Side!!! Music will be provided by the Irving Park Trio. A BIG THANK YOU to Jenn Goolsby, Analisa Caref, Tarah Dickerson, and the entire “Score Big” team for their amazing work. Our big fundraiser, held on April 8th at Whirlyball Chicago, was a tremendous success! Final numbers are not yet available, but we are well on our way to meeting our goals for both the annual budget and Fund-A-Need. Thank you, Pilgrim, for your generous support!

Egg Hunt Aftermath! Thank you so much for everyone that donated eggs and candy. Thank you to the Johnson, Ramos, and Couch/Stewart Families for helping prepare over 700 eggs! Thank you to the Ruger and Abu-Absi families for running the egg hunt! If you have gently used baskets and eggs left over, please return them to church for use for next year. They can be returned to the Pastor's office, thank you!

Women’s Bible Study — Beginning Wednesday, May 10th, at 6:30 p.m., we will Gather with refreshments, and 7:00 Prepare with Bible Study. Bible Story Time
- Join us Sunday’s until Memorial Day weekend for Intergenerational Bible Story Time at 9:15 in the Annex. Each week a story will be explored by kids, parents, grandparents, kids of any age. For more information or to lead your favorite Bible story, contact Anna-Kari Johnson at 773-990-0814.

- Our theme is “A Mighty Fortress” and will be the week of July 17-21. VBS is for kids ages 4 through Grade 5. Older kids, youth and adults are encouraged to volunteer as helpers. Vacation Bible School Volunteers needed - In addition to a number of positions for group leaders and helpers we need a leader for the Games portion of the program. This entails leading groups of kids through approximately 20 minute segments of active outdoor play. The curriculum includes suggested games or you can come up with your own activities. Please contact Chris if interested. VBS is scheduled for the mornings of July 17-21.

Explore the Bible - Would you like to learn more about the Bible? Discuss spirituality and faith in a non-threatening, non-judgmental context? We invite you to join us at 9:15 a.m. in Maring Hall, Sunday’s through May 21st, as we read and discuss the Bible together… there is NO EXPERIENCE necessary.  

Hot Meals Team 1 - needs a shopper! The dates are June 10, August 19, and October 28. We thank Claudia Dawley for being the previous shopper. This would involve communicating with the team captain before those dates for a list of what to buy and then dropping the food off by Friday evening or early Saturday morning. You would get a fob to come into the school. Your receipts can be turned into the business office for reimbursement.

This week’s Mission Memo, on the bulletin board at the back of the church, includes the following: "Information on Lutheran Day, the many challenges in South Sudan and neighbouring countries and how the church is helping, an idea for bringing the 500th anniversary of the Reformation to life, and an invitation to join next week’s World Hunger webinar."

WALK to Reach El Salvador!- May 21st - You can change lives here and around the world! Join us in a fun 3 mile walk/run in Chicago to send a mission team 2,825 miles to Central America! Please sponsor walkers who are raising funds for the travel costs and materials to build houses, churches, distribute medicine and feed refugees this summer! The Welles Park Nature Park - is 1 of 3 Chicago park projects up for a chance to receive $20,000 through the National Recreation and Park Association’s “Meet Me At The Park” program.
