Subject: No Giving Up!

Dear Friends,

Okay, I admit it. I had given up on the Cubs. Until a couple of nights ago, I hadn't cheered for them since 2005. But I'm back (a bandwagon fan, for sure:), and I hold nothing but admiration for the fans that never gave up hope.

God knows that sometimes we are in despair. Sometimes we are tempted to give up, and sometimes we do.

If you have ever felt like giving up on anything, including faith, this Sunday is for you.

Join us this Sunday at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.!

Pastor Kristian Johnson

Confirmation is Launching! Confirmation is a program that helps 6th - 9th graders learn about themselves and their relationship with God. With fun trips and retreats, service projects, and interactive classes, our students grow a strong faith foundation that will last for a lifetime. This program is open to all students regardless of their church and faith affiliation. Parents and students are welcome to attend! Please contact Pastor Kristian for more information.

Opening the Treasure: New Opportunity for Parents and Kids—We as parents want our children to have a solid spiritual foundation and learn about the Bible in a meaningful and age appropriate way. We also hear the research that faith formation happens primarily at home, but we as parents don't know where to start. Pastor Kristian is offering a 5 session class called "Opening the Treasure", which will help parents and students of all ages explore the Bible together. The next sessions are October 19th, 26th, and November 2nd and 9th, culminating with a special celebration on the 13th. To RSVP for this class, please email Renee in the office at

Women’s Bible Study—It’s not too late to join the next session on Wednesday, October 26. We gather with refreshments at 6:30 and begin our study of women in the Bible at 7:00. Anna-Kari Johnson and Renee Stuedemann will lead this series at 3944 N. Claremont Ave. If you are interested, please contact

Explore the Bible—Would you like to learn more about the Bible? Discuss spirituality and faith in a non-threatening, non-judgmental context? We invite you to join us next week at 9:15 a.m. in Maring Hall as we read and discuss the Bible together… there is NO EXPERIENCE necessary. In September, in honor of the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, we will be exploring the questions: What is the Lutheran Reformation? What is the difference between being Catholic and Lutheran? And, is a reunification in process?

Prayer Time—We invite you to join us Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. at the Parsonage for a time of prayer... it is so renewing!

New Member Classes—What does ‘Lutheran’ mean? How can Pilgrim help me and my family grow in faith? What does it mean to become a member of Pilgrim? If you’re at all curious about any of these questions, please explore with us. Child care is provided throughout each class. You can attend the three classes in any order. Please RSVP to the Church Office Administrator, Renee, at
Celebrate Halloween and Spread the Word about Pilgrim—We are sponsoring a table at the “Trick or Treat” event on Saturday, October 29th at 10 a.m. at the North Center Town Square (across from CVS at Belle Plaine and Damen) This annual event continues to grow with over 500 children and their parents. We invite you to donate a bag of candy to give out as part of our outreach to the community; please drop off candy at either the school or church office. We are also in need of volunteers, please let Renee know if you are able to come and volunteer from 9:30-10:30am; 10:30-11:30am or 11:30am to 12:30pm. Thank you!

Thank You Northcenter Chamber of Commerce—for the $2,700 grant to purchase wall pads for Maring Hall. This will contribute to a fun, safer and hopefully, quieter play space for our children. And, thank you to our Principle, Chris Comella, for taking the time from his busy schedule to complete the application.

Suggestions for the Endowment Committee—Do you regularly support, or have you recently discovered, a worthy organizations that might benefit from the support of our Pilgrim Community? The Pilgrim Endowment Committee typically makes disbursements from the Endowment Fund each year in early November. We keep a list of worthy organizations in need of our support, but we are always open to suggestions from the congregation. As we approach our early November decision date for 2016, we invite members to submit requests. If you would like to make such a request, please use the Pilgrim Endowment Request Form you'll find on the table in the narthex. Turn in your completed form to the church office, or hand it to any Pilgrim Endowment Committee member.
