Blue Christmas Prayer Service
Saturday, December 21st at 8:30 a.m.
Christmas can be a painful time for some. It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member who has recently died; it may be a time that has always been difficult. We need the space and time to acknowledge our sadness and concern; We need encouragement to live the days ahead of us.

For these reasons, we are holding a “Blue Christmas” Prayer Service on Saturday, December 21st at 8:30 a.m. at the Parsonage, 4332 N. Winchester Ave., Chicago, IL 60613.

Come join us in hearing prayers, scripture, and music that acknowledge that God’s presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle - and that God’s Word comes to shine light into our darkness. Everyone, regardless of church background (or lack of it) is welcome.

Church Directory
As we look toward producing a new and updated church directory in January, we ask you all to fill out the Connection Card Sunday with the information you would like to have printed in the directory, or contact the church office. If you want your email and/or cell phone number(s) printed, please include those on the sheet, and please print as legibly as possible. The Choirs of Queen of Angels Parish
(2330 W. Sunnyside) invite you to celebrate the music Christmas at our annual Christmas concert on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Angels Church. The featured work will be Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi sung by the Queen of Angels Choristers, Adult Choir, and Schola Angelorum, accompanied by orchestra. Our youngest singers, the Cherub Choir, will perform O Little Town of Bethlehem and there will be carols sung by all. Other featured works include Ireland, Greater Love Hath No Man and A Maiden Most Gentle by Andrew Carter. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the season to be reminded of the mystery of Christ’s birth in this musical celebration. A $10 donation will be collected at the door to support the Queen of Angels Music Ministry. A reception will follow concert in the Lower Church.
Safety Concern
For the safety of our children, we are requesting that all people stay off the stage during times of fellowship. The school’s policy is that the stage is off-limits, and we request that this rule be respected over the weekends as well. The equipment on the stage is for the use of the school. We are currently working on acquiring play equipment to have available during coffee hour.
Found Items
In the church office are two pairs of glasses and a car key. Please check in with Barbara if you are missing any of these items.

Christmas Cards for Soldiers
Pilgrim’s former Pastor, Karl Redelsheimer, is now currently serving as a Chaplain for the US Army and is currently serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan. He has shared with us through his wife Kim that he would be happy to pass out Christmas cards to soldiers, if any of you are interested in writing cards to them. What a great way to encourage those who are serving our country.

Our Prayer for Sunday
Almighty God, you once called John the Baptist to give witness to the coming of your Son and to prepare his way. Grant us, your people, the wisdom to see your purpose today and the openness to hear your will, that we may witness to Christ's coming and so prepare his way; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Isaiah 7:10–16An Israelite and Aramean military coalition presented a serious threat to King Ahaz of Judah. In response, Ahaz decided to secure his throne and kingdom by seeking refuge in Assyrian help. Isaiah reminds Ahaz that human attempts to establish security will fail. The prophet gives the sign of Immanuel that is the only source of true safety: God is with us!

The second reading is Romans 1:1–7Most of the Christians in Rome do not know Paul. In this letter's opening he introduces himself as an apostle divinely appointed to spread God's gospel. The gospel's content is the promised coming of Christ, and Paul's mission is to bring about the obedience of faith among all nations, including his Roman audience.

The Gospel reading is Luke 2:8–20:  The world’s deep night is shattered by the light of God’s new day. The glory of God is revealed to poor shepherds, who share the good news with others.
