Subject: Mary Sang it First

Centuries before Paul McCartney bellowed out, "Let it Be", someone even more famous had once said: "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word."

And then she bellowed out a song: "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior." After receiving shocking, life-altering news, Mary exudes faith, and out comes a soulful hymn of both praise and protest: The Magnificat!

Join us this Sunday at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. as we ponder the mystery and power of this moment and of this witness. How might God be leading us to echo Mary's prayer with our lives?

SENT TO SERVE
A Big Thank You from Claudia George to all those who expressed their condolences on the death of my husband, John Cook, and reached out to me so warmly with hugs and prayers and cards and communications of all kinds. As so many of you know from your own experience, receiving this kind of support is what helps you get through the difficult days of grieving such a loss. With gratitude and love, Claudia.

Thank you from Coat Angels for your generosity and support! Between donated coats and monetary donations totaling $1,300, we were able to provide coats for 78 children--78 children who will stay warm this winter because of you. A special thanks as well to the Haycock family who joined in the evening of shopping, to the 8th graders for helping to sort and bag the donations and to Lori Kraft-Shores for heading up this worthy cause. Coat Angels was thrilled to receive this bounty!

Thank you, Pilgrim! The school sends a heartfelt thank you for all the toy donations. We met and exceeded our goal! We collected 188 toys! This is such a generous community! Friday, December 14th, the toys were delivered to our friends at Pablo Casals Elementary School. Thanks for making it happen!

Thank you to Michael Haisler for sending out Christmas Cards on behalf of Pilgrim, and for coordinating our Card Ministry!

Thank you to the 30+ people who came to our annual “Caroling and Chili” event this past Sunday! We visited over 50 residents of the St. Paul’s House and visited over 23 homes and businesses along Montrose. So much fun, great friends, and delicious food!

Coats for Hot Meals Guests are needed now that we have cold weather (mostly men's Medium, Large and a few XL) and unisex hats and gloves. They can be from second hand stores, or your slightly used coats. Drop them off during Hot Meals, or there will be a storage bag them in the Pantry Hallway.

Pilgrim Church Endowment News - For 2018, the committee voted to disburse a total of $13,000 among 20 different worthy causes providing food, support and relief services locally, nationally and worldwide. We disbursed just over 30% to Pilgrim Tuition Assistance. We disbursed just under 30% to National and Global causes, like the ELCA Southeast Michigan Synod (Flint, MI water crisis) and Lutheran Disaster Response which provides relief for domestic disasters like hurricanes and the California wildfires, and COSAD and Lutheran World Relief internationally. And the balance, about 40%, was disbursed to a host of local organizations, such as local food pantries, homeless shelters and a couple churches that engage in providing food and comfort to the needy. We would like to thank everyone for their continuing support of this important part of Pilgrim's extended outreach to our community and beyond.
