Subject: Jesus just won't stop...

Dear Friends,

Jesus just won't stop talking about the children. (Mark 10:2-16) But Jesus is far from being redundant. He is persistent in bringing the children into the center of his teaching and into the lives of the Christian community because "whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it."

What does that mean? Can we really live as children when our lives become filled with the demands of adulthood? Only by the grace of God. Join us in exploring this together this Sunday, at 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.

Also, we will be blessing all animals this Sunday before and after each service in honor of St. Francis! See you soon!
GATHERING OPPORTUNITIES
2018 Block Party - Thank you to everyone who helped make our Block Party such a great event! God gave us perfect weather and the attendance was terrific. A special thanks to Sarah Lau and Heather Sexton for their leadership.  Don't forget to pick up any bowls or utensils left at the block party.

Animal Blessing- Sunday- Calling all creatures! We will be doing an animal blessing at 10:15 a.m. and again after the service. Bring your animals, or bring a picture of your animal, and they will be blessed. It is a good thing to thank God for our pets in the Spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, who was celebrated worldwide on October 4.

Fun Bible Time for Kids continues today, right after the 10:30 a.m. service. This is intended for all kids from ages 3 to 12. It will meet during coffee hour in the Annex, the room right next to the kitchen.

SENT TO SERVE
Please Join our Refugee Team Today - The Bethany UCC and Pilgrim Lutheran Partnership expects to be assigned another refugee family in the very near future. This will most likely be a family who recently arrived in Chicago, but has not yet been assigned a co-sponsor through RefugeeOne. We are still looking for more people to help tutor or mentor the family, or are willing to take on specific small projects. We will have an Info/Interest meeting today, at 12:00 noon in the Parlor. Grab some foos at coffee hours, and join us. Or, contact Renee at churchadmin@pilgrimchicago.org if you are interested.

Coat Angels is working to raise upfront donations this year to guarantee that they are able to fulfill the requests being received. They have received requests for 4,000 new coats! Any donation amount will help and you can donate on the website http://www.coatangels.org/ or via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/donate/636521493415867/1800408576710903/. FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES
Thank you to the Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation (CLEF) for their support of Pilgrim. We received notice that CLEF has awarded Pilgrim $35,000 to be used for Tuition Assistance. This amount, combined with the generous support of donations from current and alumni families plus members of the congregation, allows many students to be part of the Pilgrim family who might otherwise might not be able to afford our tuition. Thanks!!!

Windows Into Our Future - There are 30 classroom windows which face west along the alley. They are old, they are not energy/cost efficient, and they provide no sound proofing. We have set a goal to raise $85,000 in the next 10 months, and our appeal is to both school families and church members. We have raised $34,000 so far. We encourage both one-time donations and on-going monthly donations to this campaign over the coming 12 months. To give, visit https://tinyurl.com/pilgrimwindows and if you have any questions, please contact the school office at office@pilgrimchicago.org

Want to keep up-to-date on what happens at the Church Council Meetings? Copies of the meeting minutes from Tuesday, June 26th, are available on the table at the back of the church. Thank You to our Council Secretary, Kori Gilbert, for making this available for our members!

Financial Update - Thank you to everyone for your generous giving to Pilgrim! Our Interim Bookkeeper, Grayce, is preparing 3rd Quarter Giving Statements.
