Pilgrim Announcements
July 12th, 2015

Dear Friends,

In the heart of summer, we are seeing some wonderful movements...within Pilgrim and beyond Pilgrim... that are making this world a better place. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. as we explore what movements are happening in and around us, inspired by the legacy of great prophets like John the Baptist. (Mark 6:14-29)

Pastor Kristian will be back this Sunday... it will be a nice day... even if you have to leave the house a little earlier, try to walk to church if you can, enjoy the city, pray for each block as you walk!

Pastor Kristian
El Salvador Send Off
Come to Church next Sunday, June 19th as we say a commissioning prayer for our Pilgrim El Salvador Team and send them as a congregation with our blessings. The team will be accompanying The Lutheran Church of El Salvador with several ministries, including the Hope House Homeless Shelter, a Solar Energy project, planting churches among refugees, supporting children going to school, medical and dental ministry, the Farming Hope project (a sustainable farming project supporting the homeless), and marching in a prayer and peace parade on August 5th.

Prayer Ministry
Join us for prayer time at the parsonage every Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (4332 N. Winchester Ave.)
Pilgrim Preschool and Kindergarten through 8th Grade School has seats available!
Tours happen weekly on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Other times may be arranged by appointment.  Please contact Principal Chris Comella at or at 773-477-4824 for more information or to schedule a tour.
Note: FULL DAY—We have now opened a limited number of seats for three-year-olds in the morning class... with options for the afternoon as well, thus making it possible for a 3 year old to attend a full day program at Pilgrim.  Please help spread the word!

Take “Flat Jesus” with you!
This summer, we invite everyone from Pilgrim to participate in a fun, faith-filled project called “Flat Jesus”! Inspired by Ms. Huelskoetter’s “Flat Kid” project. In the back of the Pilgrim’s sanctuary, you will find a half sheet cardstock with an image of Jesus. Here’s the information as we invite you to participate:
  1. Take flat Jesus with you this summer! Color it, make it your own!
  2. Take a picture with Flat Jesus wherever you are, with whoever you’re with, doing whatever activity, trip, or service
  3. Upload them to Facebook or Twitter at #FlatJesusPilgrim or send them to:
  4. Prizes will be given in the fall to the 10 best pictures! And we’ll enjoy a slideshow in church in the fall!
Tuition Assistance Appeal
The time has come to lift up among Pilgrim families, members, friends and alumni our Tuition Assistance Campaign for the 2015-16 school-year.  In our mission to provide academic excellence with a heart, Pilgrim is blessed with many gifts from many people. Some have enough to pay tuition fully; some share gifts of service to offset part of their tuition costs. All have the desire to provide the best education possible for their children.  Please watch for a mailing to come out shortly, or, contact Principal Comella or Pastor Kristian for more information.

Love Offering for Mrs. Saiki <3
Our beloved Special Education Teacher, Cheryl Saiki, is leaving her position at Pilgrim to pursue other possibilities in her field. We are sad to see her go. She has been on staff at Pilgrim Lutheran School for over 30 years… teaching under contract with Lutheran Special Education Ministries, then, as an administrator in the school office, and later and for the greatest duration, as a teacher who instructed students with a variety of learning challenges. As her “teaching fell like rain upon tender plants” (Deuteronomy 32:2), the fruit of her work has been phenomenal. Many of her students have not only gone on to college, some of them have their PhD’s, and others are on the way to getting their Doctorates as we speak! We are so grateful for her dedication to the vocation of teaching in a nurturing, Christian environment. She is a phenomenal teacher and is gifted with an inspiring faith and wonderful working knowledge of the Scriptures. While she will continue to bless our community as an active member of our congregation, the loss to Pilgrim School and our students is immense. We invite you to give a “love offering” that will be used as a gift to Cheryl in gratitude for her wonderful dedication and heart. This Sunday, please use a pew envelope to make a gift or feel free to submit it to the office at any time. Please make checks out to “Pilgrim Lutheran Church”, and place on the memo line, “Cheryl Saiki”.

Prayer for this week
O God, from you come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works. Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments; and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
