Subject: Honoring All Women!

Pilgrim Update
Dear Friends,
Join us as we honor all women with a special blessing and gift. We welcome Pastor Anna-Kari as our preacher! We will be taking free family portraits after the service! See you Sunday!
Mothers Day Celebration May 11th
Please join us on this Sunday for a very special Mother's Day celebration. Each woman will receive a white carnation. Also, after the 10:30 a.m. service, we will be taking group and family portraits in Maring Hall of all women and their friends and families.
Please join us for a Celebrate Love Dinner with Pastor Lalissa Gemechis on Saturday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the Parsonage.
Sunday we welcome back Pastor Lalissa Gemechis from the Mekane Yesus (Lutheran) Church in Ethiopia. He is currently studying for his Doctorate at Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN. Thanks to all of you who were able to give a love offering toward his studies and ministry. If you would still like to make a gift, you may write checks to Pilgrim and write “Lalissa” in the memo line, or you may go online to our donations page, and make an online donation under the “Other” option, and write “Lalissa” next to the amount you are donating.
Mothers of Preschoolers
Join us at MOPS on June 5th, 9:15 a.m. for a very special guest speaker, author Gillian Marchenko. She will be here to talk to our group about her book, her life raising daughters with down syndrome and competition and depression in motherhood. This is an open event that all moms are welcome to attend and copies of Gillian's new book, Sun Shine Down: A Memoir, will be available. This funny, friendly mom is a great speaker and has been recognized for her openness for the sharing of her story in magazines and conferences. RSVP to if you wish to attend. MOPS asks for a donation of $10 for anyone attending the meetings to cover expenses (this would include child care, coffee, snacks and more).
Vacation Bible School
This year’s VBS program, Gangway to Galilee, will take place the week of June 16-20, in the mornings. Kids ages 3 through 12 are eligible to participate. Over the coming weeks we will be asking for adult, teen and 7-8th grade volunteers to help with our preparations, as well as lining up people to help during VBS. Last year’s volunteers had a great time, so please consider signing up to help this year, even if you don’t have kids! Questions? Contact Chris Wallis.

If you have not already done so, please let Barbara Anthony, in the church office, know if your name can be added to a list of volunteer drivers, and also let us know if your vehicle is accessible to people who may have limited mobility. Thank you in advance!

Our Prayer for Sunday
O God our shepherd, you know your sheep by name and lead us to safety through the valleys of death. Guide us by your voice, that we may walk in certainty and security to the joyous feast prepared in your house, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Acts 2:42–47;
Today’s reading is a description of life in the community following Peter's sermon on the day of Pentecost, when the Spirit was outpoured on God's people. This new community is founded on the teachings of the apostles and sustained in the breaking of the bread.

The second reading is Romans 15:30-33, 16:1-7, 13-16;
Paul sends his greetings to those who have served and labored with him for the Gospel. He recognized the hard work of fellow believers as well as those who were in prison with him.

The Gospel reading is John 10:1–10;
Jesus uses an image familiar to the people of his day to make a point about spiritual leadership. Good shepherds bring people to life through Jesus, but those who avoid Jesus are dangerous to the flock.
