Who is Pastor Lalissa Gemechis?
Pastor Gemechis is about to become a lead Pastor in one of the fastest growing churches in the World, the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (meaning “the Dwelling Place of Jesus"). In order to prepare for this role, he has secured a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Missiology at Concordia Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Why does he need our prayers and financial support?
Unfortunately, the scholarship he received does not include funding for his wife and his two small children Homey (age 7) and Wada (age 4) to join him in Indiana. They are struggling in every way to make it as a family. We believe God has given us an opportunity to fulfill the great command “to love our neighbor as ourselves” and allow someone committed to holiness in the church to be a whole person as a father and husband these next three years.

Giving a Gift to All of our Children
Dear Friends of Pilgrim,
When the last day of school for 2013-2014 ended on June 11, Pilgrim bid a master teacher farewell one last time. Even though Dave Maring retired as the Principal of Pilgrim three years ago, he has continued to teach math and work with students at school. As he ends his 49-year career working with our students, Pilgrim has established the Dave Maring School Endowment Fund in his honor. As soon as a minimum of $50,000 is invested, the school may start using interest from the fund to finance a variety of school projects, including tuition assistance, professional development for staff, and development of new programs for students.
Right now, generous donors from the congregation have made a challenge to the whole Pilgrim community—current families and friends, as well as alumni, their families and friends—to raise a total of $25,000. Once that amount is raised, the donors will add another $25,000 to the total. Meeting this challenge is an awesome way that the Pilgrim community can honor the work that Dave Maring has done for the school and continue his good works into the future.
Please consider a donation of any amount. Our goal is to announce our success at Pilgrim Fest on September 14, 2014. Donations can be made on-line through a link on the Pilgrim website:, or with a check make out to Pilgrim and “DMSE Fund” written in the memo line. If you have any questions, please talk to any of the DMSE Fund Committee members (Ed Nelson, Dale Halter, Sam Doerfler, Alison Hays or Anita Zajac) or contact the church office. Your generosity helps to ensure that the mission of Pilgrim School is moving forward: “Academic Excellence with a Heart!”
In Christ, Kristian Johnson, Pastor

Our Prayer for Sunday
Teach us, good Lord God, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, except that of knowing that we do your will, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Romans 6:1b–11;
In baptism we were incorporated into the reality of Christ's death. Our lives in the present are marked and shaped by his crucifixion, just as our lives in the future will be marked and shaped by his resurrection.

The Gospel reading is Mark 4:35-41;
Jesus’ calming of the storm on the sea reveals his power over evil, since the sea represents evil and chaos. The boat on the sea is a symbol of the church and invites us to trust God amid life’s turbulence.
