Project Linus
Dear Pastor Kristian and the members of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School, Your congregation has generously hosted Thrivent Blanket Day for Project Linus for the last seven years. Thank you! Because you care, we have made 893 blankets for children in need of comfort since we began. This year alone, we completed a total of 160 blankets. There were 87 people at the event this year, and an additional 47 who helped out before and after the event, totaling 134 volunteers. Thank you for touching 294 lives by supporting this event. Thank you so much Pastor Kristian, for your beautiful words and prayer at the event. It is so important to lift up that everyone at the event is doing God’s work with their hands, and you conveyed that beautifully. Soli Deo Gloria! Janet Fisher

Giving a Gift to All of our Children
Dear Friends of Pilgrim,
When the last day of school for 2013-2014 ends on June 11, Pilgrim bids a master teacher farewell one last time. Even though Dave Maring retired as the Principal of Pilgrim three years ago, he has continued to teach math and work with students at school. As he ends his 49-year career working with our students, Pilgrim has established the Dave Maring School Endowment Fund in his honor. As soon as a minimum of $50,000 is invested, the school may start using interest from the fund to finance a variety of school projects, including tuition assistance, professional development for staff, and development of new programs for students.
Right now, generous donors from the congregation have made a challenge to the whole Pilgrim community—current families and friends, as well as alumni, their families and friends—to raise a total of $25,000. Once that amount is raised, the donors will add another $25,000 to the total. Meeting this challenge is an awesome way that the Pilgrim community can honor the work that Dave Maring has done for the school and continue his good works into the future.
Please consider a donation of any amount. Our goal is to announce our success at Pilgrim Fest on September 14, 2014. Donations can be made on-line through a link on the Pilgrim website:, or with a check make out to Pilgrim and “DMSE Fund” written in the memo line. If you have any questions, please talk to any of the DMSE Fund Committee members (Ed Nelson, Dale Halter, Sam Doerfler, Alison Hays or Anita Zajac) or contact the church office. Your generosity helps to ensure that the mission of Pilgrim School is moving forward: “Academic Excellence with a Heart!”
In Christ, Kristian Johnson, Pastor Chris Comella, Principal

Red Geraniums for Pentecost
Sunday, June 8, is Pentecost, and in keeping with Pilgrim tradition, the congregation is invited to bring red geraniums to decorate the altar. Why red? Red is the color for Pentecost Sunday. The geraniums will be planted in the church garden for all to enjoy over the summer. If anyone would like to volunteer to do the planting, please contact Chris Wallis.  It's a great family project--geraniums are very forgiving!

Report from Mission Gifts Team
A big thank you to everyone at Pilgrim!!! This is a very exciting time at Pilgrim Lutheran Church because together, we are finishing our 2011-2014 Forward in Faith Capital Campaign. Did you know that we tithe 10% of everything we receive through this campaign to be used as mission gifts? For example, every time another $50,000 comes in, $5,000 becomes available to gift! Please pray and join in this effort as we finish our important 2014 projects and move into the future.

The Pilgrim Capital Campaign Mission Gifts Team met for the 3rd time on May 20. The members of this team are Joe Cardo, Claudia George, Tarah Dickerson, and Anna-Kari Johnson. We reviewed 11 applications totaling $56,787.50 in requests. The council has so far approved the following:

Grant $10,000 to build Lord of Life Lutheran Church in El Salvador
Grant $5,000 to the Equipo Solar (Solar Team) in El Salvador
Grant $1,000 to the “Bread of Life Project-Pastors and Feeding People” in El Salvador
Grant $1,500 to building the Hope House Clinic, part of the Salvadoran Lutheran Church
Grant $2,500 for Tuition Assistance to Luther North College Prep.

The Mission Gifts Team has set the next goal deadline date for receiving grant applications for Friday, June 13 by 2:00 pm in the Pilgrim Church Office. Applications can be found on the back table of the church.

Our Prayer for Sunday
Almighty and ever-living God, you hold together all things in heaven and on earth. In your great mercy receive the prayers of all your children, and give to all the world the Spirit of your truth and peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Sunday’s Readings
The first reading is
Acts 2:1–21;
Pentecost was a Jewish harvest festival that marked the fiftieth day after Passover. Luke portrays the Holy Spirit being poured out upon the disciples before the gathered and astonished people assembled in Jerusalem for the festival. Filled with the Spirit, the disciples were able to witness to the power of Christ's resurrection.

The second reading is 1 Corinthians 12:3b–13;
Paul is helping the Corinthians understand the relationship between our God-given unity and Spirit-created diversity. The Spirit creates the unity of faith and gives all Christians diverse gifts for the common benefit of all. We need one another’s diverse spiritual gifts, because the same Spirit has given them to each person for the common good.

The Gospel reading is John 20:19–23;
The risen Jesus appears to his disciples, offering them a benediction, a commission, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
