Subject: Meet our New Managing Director!

A Message From our New Managing Director!
Hi, there! I am thrilled to join the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund as the new Managing Director. As a 2016 awardee of the Forty under Forty cohort, I have long admired PGCSIF and its mission to serve as a catalyst for positive social impact for Prince George’s County. As a lifelong Prince George’s County resident assuming this role is uniquely special and I look forward to partnering with you to deepen our work - together.

In addition to my role with the Fund, I am also the Director of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the largest civil rights organization that works on behalf of LGBTQ people in the world.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Bowie State University, Master of Social Work degree from Howard University and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Howard University.

I aim to grow PGCSIF into a national model of community social innovation and leadership excellence for communities like Prince George’s County. Your partnership and support is critical and I look forward to working together. I encourage our forty under forty awardees and PGCSIF supporters reach out to me at Leslie@innovateprincegeorges.org.
Black-Owned Businesses See Holiday Shopping as an Opportunity

Businesses across the country have been impacted by the pandemic. This is especially true for Black-owned businesses. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that Black small-business ownership in the U.S. dropped 41% between February and April, the greatest decline among all racial groups.

Black Friday, Cyber Weekend, and the holiday shopping season are an opportunity for Black-owned businesses to begin to bounce back financially. With this in mind, leaders and organizations throughout the country are urging consumers to shop at Black-owned businesses. This is an initiative we all can join and encourage others to take part in.

As you shop this holiday season, remember to shop small, local, and Black!
