SOCIAL EQUITY AND WEALTH BUILDING REQUIRES CAPITAL
Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund Awarded Meyer Foundation Grant

Largo, MD – Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund (PGCSIF) received a $60,000 grant from the Meyer Foundation for the 2020 grant year. The funding helps PGCSIF continue its work to create a more prosperous and equitable county. Specifically, the Meyer grant enabled PGCSIF to hire a managing director, this operational shift will allow PGCSIF to implement more programming and create more partnerships to increase their impact on behalf of Prince George’s County..

As the Innovation Fund moves to establish a full-time staff, capacity to foster social power, political activism, economic security and wealth building across multiple sectors will strengthen. Tonia Wellons, Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund founder said, “PGCSIF strives to be an equalizer and catalyst for county residents. Programming like our most recent Legislative Briefing Series is a much needed pathway to engage dialogue between county residents and officials about proposed legislation on a number of topics, including the Kirwan Commission. We must have a full-time staff to execute this important work.”

“With a managing director, we can continue to build upon the solid foundation and momentum established by the hard work of our founder and board of directors,” responded Chike Aguh, board chair. The Innovation Fund has honored and connected 320 of the county’s best and brightest people across multiple sectors through its signature Forty Under 40 initiative. And, in December 2018, Prince George’s Rising: A Report on Equitable Growth and Prosperity in Prince George’s County was published to county wide praise and high reviews.

ON THE HORIZON
Board member Brian Rubin represents PGCSIF on the Complete Count Committee for our county's census efforts. Every 10 years, a complete count of every person helps identify and allocate roughly $675 billion to states and communities based on census data. The money is spent on schools, hospitals, roads, public works, and other programs. For each person who fails to be counted, the county loses federal funding.
