The Tricky Sea Snail

Hello Friend,

Cerithidea obtusa is a sea snail that is often found in muddy beaches. Locals call it "siput sedut" or "belitung".

Some Malay dishes use this sea snail because it is relatively common and inexpensive.

The tricky part is how to extract the soft flesh from the shell.

According to some people, you need to suck quickly from the narrower end. Too bad I haven't figured out the perfect technique.

Anyway, this dish here is called "Siput Sedut Masak Lemak Cili Api". This is where I had this dish...

Do you know what is the correct method to eat siput sedut? Please share your experience with me. :-)
