Subject: a son's injustice..

Morning Friend,

A week or so ago we went to watch our oldest son's varsity baseball game. My wife and I and all of our kids. My parents and sister were there, along with Corene's parents, brother and a niece and nephew.

We'd all showed up to watch Kayden play. He's a junior this year, and really is a great baseball player. When he played little league for the first year a few years ago, his coaches couldn't believe he'd never played before. He pitched, and hit the ball extremely well.

On the varsity team now, he's got the 4th highest batting average on the team, a great arm, works hard, and carries a great attitude with all he faces.

We live sandwhiched between 2 towns, and decided to send our kids to the smaller town closest to us. Technically, we're not within the normal boundary lines for this school, so in a sense, you could say we're sort of 'outsiders' of this little small town community.

Kayden has had to fight his way onto the team, and is still fighting for his rightful spot on the team.

Last year, as a sophmore, the 2 coaches son's - both freshman - started over Kayden.

This year, the athletic director's son - also a sophomore - is starting over Kayden and squeezing out much of his playing time. (Kayden is clearly a far better player than this kid - and no, this isn't the blind eye of a prejudicial father speaking)

In this game I'm referring to, Kayden got sent in for one inning, to left field, to fill in for the coach's son, who has been injured and got injured again.

After just a few plays, they pulled him out and put the coach's son back in again, continuing to play him - even though he's injured and has a terrible batting average this year.

Last night, Kayden told me that when the coaches posted the roster, his name wasn't even on it.

He said, he's guessing the coach was busy, and just forgot.

How do you forget to put a kid's name on the roster, especially one who's been working his butt of on your team for 3 years now?

Hearing Kayden tell me this, felt like my heart was being stabbed. I felt so bad for him and hurt for what he's going through.

It's hard for my wife and I to both sit there and watch this seeming injustice play out before our eyes, game after game, and continue to try to help Kayden keep a positive attitude.

Kayden told us, his coaches have said that every spot on the team must be earned and is never given.

After watching how they organize the positions, game after game, playing favorites to their favorites, it seems crystal clear to us, there's definitely something other than talent, work ethic and results going into these decisions.

I have to admit, It seems incredibly unjust.

It continues to remind me of when I was in the job world and there were so many other 'factors' at play going into promotions and pay.

Factors other than - work ethic, skill and results.

This was the greatest motivator, within me - to make a decision to build a life and a business that was 100% free from other people's - unjust judgement - reigning over my soul, potental and future.

I'm not sure how this will all play out with Kayden. If he told me today that he'd decided to quit - honestly - I wouldn't blame him.

Of course I'm fan of persistence - but I gotta tell you Friend, some things are definitely worth quitting.

Relationships that don't serve you, negative influences in your life, and yes - injustice is something that to me, is worth quitting in a "100% full body yes" type of style.

Anyway, just wanted to pass this little note on as a reminder to myself and you, that building a business, and a life of freedom - is sooooo worth it because not having to pay the price my son is paying - for your whole life - is worth whatever price we have to pay to get there.

Hope your day is amazing and thanks for reading!
