East Pattaya is called many times The Dark Side like it is a horror movie title. But it is in fact the area of the city across the train tracks on the “other side” of Sukhumvit Road. This area stretches to highway 36 in the north, Huai Yai Road in the south and Lake Mapbrachan in the east.
The name The Dark Side Pattaya comes from the fact that up until recently street lighting was few and far between so as night fell that whole district was plunged into darkness.
But although the name is still there, the lights are shining bright like never before. It is fully lit throughout.
The Dark Side also reflected on business side and most investors were not interested in that side of town but this is wrong. The dark side is packed full of businesses, housing projects, condo projects and leisure opportunities from gentlemen’s clubs to bars and great restaurants.
It has a large expat population and because less tourists show up there, it is the favorite place to stay by expats. Because of that large expats group, there is now a wealth of Beer bars, Pubs and go go clubs scattered throughout this massive district, all successful running because rents are low and overhead possible to handle.
Most demanded are areas around Soi Khao Noi and Soi Khao Talo.
