ROUND-UP OF MEMBERS' NEWS
Downtown Cabaret Theatre’s Main Stage Theatre is celebrating Black History Month with Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, running February 2 -18. A Raisin in the Sun was the first play written by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway (in 1959). Director Brian Crook comments, "Black History month is a time when we celebrate the contributions of extraordinary black Americans like Lorraine Hansberry. Mounting A Raisin in the Sun during this special month gets to the core of what I think Hansberry was trying to celebrate in her plays...the black FAMILY.” Crook's direction was recently praised by reviewer Jim Ruocco, saying "His approach to Hansberry's celebrated work is honest, real, absorbing and powerful." (From the Desk of Jim R., Take 2).
