ARTS & ECONOMIC PROSPERITY 6 NATIONAL RELEASE DATE SET FOR OCT 12

Save the date!  Americans for the Arts is excited to announce the national launch date of Arts & Economic Prosperity 6. AEP6 is the national study that demonstrates that the nonprofit arts and culture industry is an economic driver — an industry that supports jobs, generates government revenue, and is the cornerstone of tourism. The virtual event will be freely available to all. Building on its 30-year legacy, AEP6 will document in unprecedented scope and detail the economic power that the arts and culture wield in 373 study regions across all 50 states and Puerto Rico as well as include new findings about social impact and how the arts are building healthier communities. HITTING THEATRE HARD: THE LOSS OF SUBSCRIBERS WHO WENT TO EVERYTHING

Across the nation, the nonprofit theater world’s industrywide crisis, which has led to closings, layoffs and a reduction in the number of shows being staged, is being exacerbated by a steep drop in the number of people who buy theater subscriptions, in which they pay upfront to see most or all of a season’s shows. The once-lucrative subscription model had been waning for years, but it has fallen off a cliff since the pandemic struck. CAFC is doing its part working with its Community Theatre Network to organize a campaign to urge state and federal legislators to focus on possible solutions to this serious issue.
