Celebrating Women's History Month

Women's History Month is a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of women! In the realm of arts and culture, Women's History Month provides an opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of women artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, actors, visual artists, and cultural leaders throughout history.

It's also a time to reflect on the challenges women have faced and continue to face in the arts and culture industries, including issues of representation, gender inequality, and barriers to entry. By acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of women in arts and culture, Women's History Month serves as a reminder of the importance of gender equality and the need for continued efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in these fields.

During Women's History Month, we will continue our social media campaign with Colorful Bridgeport this month we will highlight women artists and professionals in our region! If you're interested in personally celebrating women artists and creatives:

  • share event details organized to showcase the work of women artists, such as art exhibitions featuring female artists, film festivals highlighting movies directed by women, theatrical performances written or directed by women, and concerts featuring female musicians.

  • participate in educational programs and discussions may focus on the impact of women on the arts

  • sponsorship a CAFC membership for a woman artist in your network!

Thank you all for all that you do!

Historic Preservation as a Tool for Social Equity

Connecticut is home to invaluable works of architecture and art that play a crucial role in shaping our historic landscape.

Historic Preservation provides assessments to understand how buildings can continue to serve the community, strengthening community cohesion, creating a sense of belonging, and providing inspiration. A new opportunity for assistance in preservation emerged early last year, when the General Assembly approved Governor Lamont proposal for The Community Investment Fund 2030 (CIF2030). This program aims to stimulate economic growth in historically underserved communities throughout the state, including Bridgeport. The initiative makes a total of $875 million available to nonprofit organizations.
