ANNOUNCING CAFC DATA TASK FORCE

In a response to many of our members’ frustrations with the increasing data demands of funders, and the lack of information and assistance about how to meet those demands, we formed a small group to discuss a range of data-related issues. Although CT Humanities is not the only subject of data-request concerns, it is the latest and, to its credit, it has taken the opportunity, with running the largest and broadest grant distribution in CT's cultural history, to survey the community, its activities and needs. Our ad hoc group formulated concerns, needs and questions and has had two extensive sessions with Scott Wands that resolved several concerns and came to an agreement to furthering conversations about other issues regarding data collecting tools, funding and possibly funding data expertise etc. We have now decided to open this group to all members in order to continue the conversations, get greater input, agree to possibly pool resources, hire consultants etc. If you are with a CAFC member organization, we invite you to sign up for our new CAFC Data Task Force.

DON'T REBUILD, UPBUILD!

Upbuilding is a way to pivot away from the way organizations have traditionally spoken about nonprofit infrastructure investments. It requires a plan centered in anti-oppression, equity, dismantling white supremacist norms, racial equity, and materializing (rather than emptily pledging to support) deep love and care for people in how we build up nonprofit capacity.

ENGAGING THE ARTS FOR WELLBEING

There is increasing interest in how the arts contribute to individual and community wellbeing. This scoping review identified and examined ways in which the arts have been used to address wellbeing in the US. It highlights positive associations found across a broad spectrum of psychological, physical, and social outcomes, including improvements in self-esteem, cognition, physical balance, and physical conditioning.
